21st Jan 2026 @oireachtas_news, we made our voices impossible to ignore.

@cared_ireland Ireland brought the lived experiences of families affected by eating disorders directly into the national conversation - and it was heard.

Our evidence and stories presented to the Oireachtas Health Committee were covered across @rtenews @irishtimesnews @thejournal_ie @irish_examiner, with TV reports on RTÉ’s lunchtime and Six One News. This matters, because eating disorders are too often hidden, minimised or misunderstood.

What we shared today was simple and stark:
Families are struggling. Services are failing. Lives are at risk.

We spoke about lack of specialist services, bed capacity, postcode inequality, under-resourced teams, and the reality of watching a loved one deteriorate while help is delayed or unavailable. This is not about statistics - it’s about children, young people and adults who deserve timely, specialist, compassionate care.

We will continue to centre lived experience, to speak honestly about what is happening on the ground, and to push for urgent, meaningful change. Eating disorders are life-threatening illnesses and must be treated with the same seriousness, urgency and dignity as any other serious condition.

This is not the end of the conversation.
It’s pressure. It’s persistence. And it’s for our loved ones.
