The vibrant rhythms of the Caribbean pulsed through Kings Theatre in Brooklyn as the third annual @CaribbeanMusicAwards celebrated the region's musical heritage and rising stars. Among the highlights, the iconic Haitian band #Carimi received the prestigious #LegacyAward, recognizing their decades-long influence on #konpa music and the broader #Caribbean diaspora.

The ceremony, held on August 28, 2025, and broadcast for the first time on BET on September 12, drew a star-studded crowd including #BustaRhymes, #BountyKiller, and #Shenseea. Hosted by comedian #MajahHype, the event honored over 200 nominees across more than 40 categories, with special accolades spotlighting trailblazers who have shaped the genre's evolution.

Carimi, formed in the 1990s, is known for blending traditional konpa with modern pop and R&B elements. Their hits like "Baby Love" and "Fè Sa W Vle" have captivated audiences worldwide, fostering cultural pride and unity among #Haitian communities. The band's electrifying live performances and genre-defining sound have inspired generations, making their Legacy Award a fitting tribute to their enduring impact.

Presenting the honor was Jessie Woo, who took the stage to laud @Carimireunionlive as "one of the most influential Haitian musical groups of the modern era." The Legacy Award was one of several special honors announced earlier in August by the Caribbean Elite Group, the event's organizers. Other recipients included Busta Rhymes (Elite Icon Award), Bounty Killer (Lifetime Achievement Award), the Sizzla Youth Foundation (Humanitarian Award), Shirley Ann Cyril-Mayers (Gospel Excellence), Austin “Super Blue” Lyons (Calypso Honors), and producer Kerwin Du Bois. These accolades underscored the awards' focus on both artistic excellence and community contributions.

The third annual #CaribbeanMusicAwards, scheduled for Thursday, August 28, at the renowned Kings Theatre in #Brooklyn, New York, will honor the vibrant legacy of Caribbean music. Among the distinguished recipients, Haitian #Konpa band #Carimi will receive the prestigious #LegacyAward for their transformative influence on #Caribbean music and culture, a moment of pride for the Haitian community and fans worldwide. 🇭🇹

Formed in 2001 by #CarloVieux, #RichardCavé, and #MickaelGuirand, Carimi (a blend of their names: Ca-Ri-Mi) revolutionized the Konpa genre by fusing traditional Haitian rhythms with contemporary influences like R&B, zouk, and pop. Their infectious hits, including "Ayiti Bang Bang," "Baby I Miss You," and "Mwen Pare," have become anthems, resonating with the Haitian diaspora and global audiences alike.

The Legacy Award at the 2025 @Caribmusicawards recognizes Carimi’s profound impact on Konpa and their role in elevating Haitian music on the global stage. Their innovative sound and dynamic performances have inspired countless artists and fostered a deep sense of cultural identity within the Haitian community.

The 2025 Caribbean Music Awards will showcase over 200 nominees across 40+ categories, with top nominees including Masicka and Shenseea (seven nominations each), Patrice Roberts and Kes (six each), and Vybz Kartel, Buju Banton, Nailah Blackman, Chronic Law, and Kranium (five each). Additional honorees include Bounty Killer, Austin "Super Blue" Lyons, Kerwin Du Bois, the Sizzla Youth Foundation, and gospel legend Shirley Ann Cyril-Mayers, all celebrated for their contributions to Caribbean music and culture.

For the Haitian community, Carimi’s Legacy Award is a powerful tribute to their enduring influence and a celebration of Haitian cultural resilience.
