Kathy Moran, Editor and Chair of the Jury, notes ‘this photograph has so many layers in terms of content and composition. The eye travels across the road, through traffic before spotting the owls. It simultaneously screams habitat destruction and adaptation, begging the question: if wildlife can adapt to our environment, why can’t we respect theirs?’

Wildlife photographer of the year!!!

For my hundredth post I decided to share images from these amazing nights in London.

Winning the competition was my biggest dream, and making it come true was an unbelievable experience.

The nights felt magical, meeting the most amazing photographers from every part of the globe, enjoying amazing food, and walking through the beautifully lit museum, full of tuxedos and colorful dresses. The excitement was unreal .

The days of the ceremony were amazing as well, cycling through London’s parks and different attractions, enjoying perfect weather, and the excitement of knowing that in a few hours we’ll be all dressed up in an evening dedicated to photography.

This was one of the best experiences of my life, and I can’t wait to come back in the future.

The Barn Owls.

Beautiful birds, and ferocious killers. They have incredible sense of hearing which allows them to hunt in pitch black darkness.

I follow these owls for years now, and I always enjoy photographing them. Here is a collection of images mostly from the past year of two different barn owl families. One living in an old abandoned building, and one in a palm tree.

I hope you will enjoy this new type of post, I started experimenting with. by @carmel_bechler

Palm tree Barnie.

For me , my greatest discoveries come after I finish my photography session. When the last rays of sun are gone, I’m tired and want to go home.

In these moments where I stay outside, and keep my ears open instead of relaxing with some music, I find the most success.

פרחון בעדשה רחבה. 🦉

זה אחד הגוזלים שצילמתי שנה שעברה עם עדשה רחבה – משהו שאף פעם לא עשיתי לפני.

אתמול חזרתי לאזור ופגשתי שני בוגרים ופרחון. זה תמיד כיף לצלם את החבר’ה האלה. הסתובבתי והסתכלתי על העצים, ופתאום קלטתי שלושה שעירים מסתכלים עליי מ שניים וחצי מטר. תמיד חוויה נהדרת עם השעירים!

Wide angle Scops owlet.

This is One of last year’s owlets which I had the great pleasure of photographing with my wide angle, something I never did before!

Yesterday I returned to the area and was greeted by two adults and one fledgling! It’s always fun photographing these guys. You look around searching, and suddenly you see it staring at you, weather from 10 meter away or two.

Always a great time with the Scops Owls!

For me this season revolved around long eared owls and eagle owls. But mainly Long Eared owls🦉

I discovered a few new families in my area and had some incredible encounters. Plus I have met one of nicest Leos I’ve even encountered.

Stinging love.

A European hornet nest.

While searching for tawny owls in the islands of Greece I stumbled upon this beautiful structure in this tree, and ended up photographing these huge hornets for an hour or so…

In the first image the two hornets came together and stood infirm one another. It seemed like some romantic ritual but unfortunately I’m no bug expert, so this is just an assumption. taken in Greece by @carmel_bechler

My first Lesser Kester.

It’s very similar to the common Kestrel, but is much less common and has a more clean minimalist look.

I encountered this one on a morning walk when I had some time to kill after visiting my eagle owl family at 6 am and before the sandwich place opened at 8:30 am. This was a great morning!!! by @carmel_bechler

ב 21.5 אעביר סדנה לצילום ינשופים!!!

בסדנה נחפש ינשופי עצים ושעירים, ונלמד למצוא אותם לבד בסביבה הקרובה לבית. אני מצלם את הינשופים האלו כבר מעל שש שנים, והאהבה שלי אליהם הביאה אותי לזכור בתחרות הגדולה בעולם לצילום טבע.

Photographed in my garden.

This year I wrote 20 “five star” image ideas I want to accomplish in 2026. For me is quite a large amount of good photos to take in a single year.

A few of these five star images, I described as “surprise” as I know how unpredictable nature can be.

This was one of my first surprises.
Scops owls are subjects I photograph often, but at this time of day, after the sunset, when the light is magical, I had never experimented with them like this before this session.

So far, This is one of my favorite images from this year, and I hope for many more surprises in the coming months . by @carmel_bechler

A very relaxed female Long Eared Owl.

Mother of three, this one was one of the most pleasant owls I got to photograph, after leaving her daytime sleeping spot, she went to three different branches, spending around few minutes on each one.

She let me walk around compose and photograph her, all while barely looking at me.
