Hey y’all!! @wanitamusic interviewed me about my record collection for their super cool series ✨Gold Diggers✨! This is an ongoing project focusing on female/gnc/queer collectors of vinyl !!!

We invite DJ Glitterous...

Who are you and how many years have you been collecting records?

Hi, my name is Carmella Ortiz, also known as DJ Glitterous when spinning Soul records. I'm from Portland, Oregon in the U.S. I've been collecting records with a focus on POC, queer, and female musicians for about 10 years now.

What is in your record collection?

I have around 800 45s and 200 LPs. The majority of my 45s are rare soul records. The rest are a mixture of 70s glam, punk, new wave, riot girl, hip hop, and old school country. I started collecting records after being a dancer at local soul nights for many years, one day it just clicked that I wanted to make people dance too.

* If you could pick one female artist/musician from your record collection that people should know more about their music & work, which artist would that be?

That's a tough one! I honestly felt so complete after discovering this amazing RB girl group from Detroit called Bobbie Smith & The Dream Girls. They only put out a handful of 45s from 61-62 but literally, every single one is a banger front and back!
Otherwise, if I could cheat and choose one more artist to shout out, it would be an amazing contemporary rapper named Junglepussy from Brooklyn NY who I am surprised hasn't completely blown up yet. Her message is like nothing else I've ever heard.
