Happy Mother’s Day to all of you out there who know that sometimes, as hard as you try to plan and control outcomes, you just have to take it a day at a time, and persevere with patience, whether it’s just a busy day or a serious cancer diagnosis. Sometimes we can ‘fix’ things for our kids, and sometimes it’s a waiting game with no clear ending. But that’s what we do as mothers; we relish and adore the highs, and we bravely work through the lows. And all of it is a gift and an honor I wouldn’t give up for anything. ❤️ by @carolhen920

This is an 8x10 of ‘Olive’ who some of you knew. I thought about her with every teeny little piece of tissue paper I tore and glued (except her pretty brown eyes). And maybe you think it’s too ‘busy’ but I love how it turned out! 👏 I might have to hang it on the wall above ‘Jane’s’ dog bowls with all her other dog artwork.

I wish I’d be needing this for sun, not rain.

To the God of Weather, can you please change your mind for the weekend? It’s my first national arts festival, I have 41 paintings, lotsa prints, took days off work, and drove 10 hrs with daughter Whitney and black lab Jane in tow.

BUT I’m so excited! Brought three raincoats and rubber shoes. And come rain or shine I’ll be in booth #2616 between 26th St and 27th St on the Virginia Beach boardwalk for the Neptune Arts Festival this weekend!! Come see me!

Shame on me for being MIA for weeks and weeks. I have no excuses, just reasons.

But now I’m painting for the upcoming Virginia Beach Neptune Arts Festival and am so excited!

My lifeguard stand is 20”x20”x1.5”, sealed and ready to hang.

If you’ve been thinking about a painted portrait of someone in your life, but just haven’t pulled the trigger, take the first step.

What is it about that person you love the most? I like using reference photos that aren’t necessarily typical. Like ‘Uncle Ned’ in his fishing shirt and hat. No coat & tie for him! Or even the back of your 4 yr little girl wearing that cute dress with the big floppy bow.

Look through your photos and see what tugs at you. Nothing formal or fancy.

Ok, here’s the story. My son Billy and his fiancé Bridget are, as we speak, moving into a gorgeous home in Virginia Beach they just closed on yesterday.

Most of you know I substitute teach full time at Upper Arlington High School in Columbus. I was texting them during 1st Pd (don’t worry, the kids were busy working on an assignment on their iPads) to tell them how much I wished I was there to help them clean. And then tears came to my eyes because I couldn’t.

At 71, there are so many things I should be doing with my 4 kids who each live in a different state. I’m hoping it’s normal at my age to be acutely aware of time being finite while asking myself how I want to spend it. And sometimes there are more questions than answers.

Then I got a call to report to the school office. (What did I do??! You can tell I must sleep with guilt!)

As I walked in, daughter Whitney walked around the corner with my fav Target chocolate caramels, a Yeti full of ice, and a Coke with ‘William’ (Billy) on it! The tears came again, right there in the office.

The arms of gratitude quickly wrapped around me. I am so grateful that I’m so healthy and young, and still working full time. Not to mention, loving my job because of so many amazing kids here at UAHS. Most of all, I’m so grateful for my 3 daughters and son who think of me in so many ways.

Thank you @whitneyhennesseylee for being you and reminding me of all the things and people I love and am grateful for.
