Carried Together Co. is here. 🌿

I’m Melissa — mom of 2, a trained therapist and
babywearing enthusiast (soon-to-be educator in this space). I started this because I already spend too much of my free time figuring out how I can convince all my friends to babywear (with a high success rate 💁🏻‍♀️), I also help with fit checks, offer recommendations, etc! It brings me joy- so why not create community around it?

It’s no secret that keeping babies close creates a softer landing spot for new parents in their postpartum fog and for new babies figuring out this big world!!

My why:

🫶🏼 Carriers are overwhelming- there’s so many options and it’s hard to figure out what works best for you, spoiler alert: babywearing doesn’t have to be expensive, you don’t need a giant collection, and it can be tailored to different sized bodies and family units (twins anyone?).

💓 Motherhood/early stage caregiving is lonely as the “village” everyone is promised is hard to find!

🌎 It’s an honor to learn from those before us- babywearing has been around since pre-historic times (some sheep skin to hold your baby while you hunt and gather??) an essential tool for survival.

💗 Babywearing saved me in the throws of 1st time motherhood PPA- that and some solid mental health support.

Soooooo - with all that, look out for our first local meet up where I bring my collection of carriers for you to try! I’ll also be offering 1:1 consults and a lending library where you can take a carrier home and try it out for some time!

And to be clear, I use all the tools at my disposal - including a bouncer lol. But whenever I can decrease her intense cries, I will. I already have to bear those at red lights/in her car seat. 😵

We had all the big feelings at dinner and a tandem walk around our block always makes everyone feel better. Well someone got a little too quiet on my back… 😆 I did end up letting him sleep and semi-transferred him to bed after a fresh set of pj’s!

In case this is also how you feel- you’re not alone!! Permission to take care of yourself and say NO to things that are not life-giving or essential to yourself or your family. And permission to say YES to things that bring you joy (even if they feel hard in the moment). This is the constant reevaluation I do to stay sane!!

Inspired by a local friend on here! Neck creep is a common issue with X-back carriers, especially as you move about your day. I hope this helps if you’re finding yourself with straps getting too close to your neck!

While wraps, meh dai’s, and ring slings are all wonderful options- I hesitate to recommend them to everyone in the first 6 weeks. For my tired new mom who has zero capacity to learn something new, buy/rent a soft structured newborn carrier. It will:

✨Ensure you have a safe(r) fit than a larger carrier with a panel that’s too long.

✨ Increase your confidence in babywearing.

✨ Increase baby’s tolerance of babywearing.

Not all newborn carriers are made equally, let me know if you need a specific recommendation!
