A few months ago, I did a thing.

I launched COFMG Insights and published my first paper. It’s called “How the Jamaican New Testament Is Doing What Formal Education Never Did” and it looks at something I stumbled into during my own Bible reading practice: the Jamaican New Testament on the Bible app is quietly teaching us to read and write our own language in a way no school ever did.

If you’ve been following the conversation about Patois and whether it should be an official language, this is a different angle. I’m not asking whether it should be official. I’m asking: when it is, what infrastructure do we actually have? And who is learning to read and write it right now?

The answer surprised me. And it started with a Bible app.

🎬🌴 CSIFF26 WELCOMES A NEW MEDIA PARTNER: CARRY ON FRIENDS MEDIA GROUP!

We’re excited to welcome Carry On Friends Media Group (COFMG) as an official CSIFF26 Media Partner.

Carry On Friends has grown into a Caribbean diaspora cultural media company exploring the experiences, ideas and stories shaping Caribbean life across the diaspora through podcasts, cultural research, community conversations and original projects.

And there’s another reason this partnership feels like such a natural fit.

🎥 Reels & Riddims, a COFMG brand, puts the focus directly on Caribbean film and television—celebrating productions from the Caribbean and its diaspora while also asking important questions about how we see ourselves represented in mainstream film and TV.

That’s a conversation we want more people having.

As CSIFF26 brings filmmakers and audiences together from across the Caribbean and diaspora, we’re proud to have media partners helping these stories travel beyond the festival screen.

Welcome to the CSIFF26 community, Carry On Friends Media Group + Reels & Riddims! 🌎🎬

📅 CSIFF26 | October 9–11, 2026 | NYC

Myth busted: Did enslaved Africans create languages to hide things? Not really. Slave owners spoke them too, interacting closely with Africans. The overseer knew the language. #LinguisticMyths #AfricanDiaspora #LanguageHistory #CulturalFacts #HistoryUncovered #CaribbeanCulture #Patois #Bajan by @carryonfriends

Stop calling Jamaican or Trini 'broken English.' The belief that enslaved Africans failed to learn standard English is false. They were exposed to non-standard dialects from indentured servants and criminals, not the King's English. #LinguisticHistory #AfricanDiaspora #LanguageMyths #Sociolinguistics #CaribbeanHistory #StandardEnglish #Dialects #DecolonizeLanguage by @carryonfriends

Language trauma runs deep. English education in Jamaica suppressed Creole, leaving scars like battered person syndrome. A painful inheritance. #Language #Trauma #Jamaica #Creole #Colonialism #Identity #History #BatteredPersonSyndrome #SocialJustice by @carryonfriends
