🎨 Warum ist Rot eigentlich nicht einfach nur Rot?

In der neuen Folge von Fragen an… spreche ich mit dem Künstler Carsten Becker über Farben, Formen und die Geschichten, die sich dahinter verbergen.

RAL, DIN und die TGL-Normen der DDR – klingt erstmal ziemlich technisch? Ist es aber gar nicht! Denn hinter Farben und Normen stecken spannende Fragen über Ordnung, Geschichte und unsere Wahrnehmung der Welt.

Two TGL-standardized components of GDR electrical engineering, lacquered in reconstructed standard colors. Meergrün was a standardized color for industrial machinery in GDR production halls, Maisgelb a warning color.

„In the DIN series, developed since 2019, and the most recent TGL series, Becker reconstructs industrial colour systems such as RAL and the now vanished TGL colour standards of the GDR. […] Through re-lacquering, reproduction, photographic composition, and juxtaposition, Becker removes these objects from their original functional context and exposes their historical layering as well as their entanglement with institutional structures of power.“

Lack auf Glas, 28 × 8 cm

1988 ergänzte die NVA ihren traditionellen Tarnton Olivgrün — von der Wehrmacht übernommen — um zwei neue Farben, darunter Dämmergrau 2403. Diese Farbe galt nur zwei Jahre — sie verschwand mit dem Staat, der sie vorschrieb.

In 1988, the NVA supplemented its traditional camouflage tone Olive green — adopted from the Wehrmacht — with two new colors, including Twilight Grey 2403. This color was valid for only two years — it vanished with the state that prescribed it.
