Tropes of the Death Book Series:
Found Family, Forced Proximity, Fated Mates, One Bed, Second Chance, Sapphic, Love Triangle, Friends to Lovers, Enemies to Lovers

I’ve been asked several times, why I started writing books. Which led me to answer the question-who are my books for?
Here is the answer I came up with:

I wrote these books for the ones who have seen the darkness in others—the ones who know how sneaky and silent it can be. They’re a reminder to stay cautious, stay aware, but still keep your heart open to love, to life, to possibility.

I wanted to connect with those who have quietly survived emotional abuse— the kind that doesn’t leave visible scars, but cuts just as deep, sometimes deeper.

If that’s you, I need you to know: you are not alone.
Even in life’s darkest moments, there is always hope. There is no darkness without light.
There is duality, there is balance and inside each of us is a powerful, hidden place where healing and magic live.

With each book I write, a long-forgotten piece of my heart heals—parts I didn’t even realize still needed mending. And just maybe, they’ll do the same for you, the reader.

These books are for the ones who have felt small. For the ones who have witnessed the worst the world has to offer—and still dared to hope, to dream, to reach for something more—just like Clarke did in Death Rattle.

I see you. And these stories are for you. by @carterpughwrites

Hey! I’m Carter Pugh, and I write The Death Book Series—a spicy, stabby urban romantasy series.

My books have:
✨ Mental health rep
✨ LGBTQ+ rep
✨ Sexy fae
✨ Messy but relatable main characters
✨ Plot twists you won’t see coming
✨ Murder
✨ Mental and physical abuse
✨ Bullying
✨ Fast-paced, quick reads
✨ Short chapters that keep you hooked
✨ Cliffhangers you won’t hate me for
✨ Hope and healing
✨ Found family
✨ Explicit sex scenes & language

The Death Book Series has elements of your favorite romantasy books, but I promise it’s not just another romantasy. This story is crafted to feel uniquely different, leaving reviewers saying, “I’ve never read anything quite like this, and I can’t get enough.”

Once you pick this series up, it sinks its claws into you, and you’ll beg it to never let go.
Start today with Death Rattle! The series is available on Kindle Unlimited and everywhere books are sold, even the library.

Best of all? This will be a completed series this year, so now’s the perfect time to catch up before the final book drops.

Stay Stabby XOXO,
Carter Pugh by @carterpughwrites

This deserves another post. I’m so freaking proud of the way this series ends!!! Add to your TBR now!

Announcing the release date for Death Knell, the final book in the Death Book Series!

✨ 12.21.26 ✨

Why the Winter Solstice?

The Winter Solstice is the longest, darkest night of the year. A fitting date for a series full of death and darkness.
The main theme of this series is that even in the darkest moments, there is always light.
So what better day to release Death Knell?
Even in the darkest night, the light is coming. ✨

(It’s also Feyre Archeron’s birthday ✨ and there would be no Death Book Series if I had not fallen back in love with reading via romantasy) by @carterpughwrites

What in the Charlotte BookPalooza was that???

Gonna need 5-10 business days, a few happy cries and some couch days to process the magnitude that day was 🥹🥹

It’s like I told @brittawritesthings — this is what we deserve. Indie authors work so hard, and today, today was the harvest of that because readers showed up by the thousands!!

You sold out Truist Field for us, you wrapped those lines around the stadium not once but mutha focking twice—in the mutha tucking rain.
Y’all said— “books!! Can’t stop won’t stop” 😂

Kat and Jesse, @booksonthehousenc , you know how much I love you already, but look what you did, look what you did for this community that you love.
I can’t find the words to thank you for the care and consideration you showed us today. The blood, sweat and tears you poured into this was blaring visible, and I hope you feel every bit of gratitude that is being spoken and posted about because you more than deserve it.

Thank you to everyone who took the Death Book Series home today! I’m so thankful and so happy that I’m this tired 🫶🫶🫶

Being an author is everything I could’ve imagined and more, and it’s all because of you! taken in Truist Field by @carterpughwrites
