Mourning the American Dream, worshipping extravagance.

I thought lobbying was meeting with interns.

As a member of the NFU and their National Youth Advisory Council (NYAC), I was able to lobby for a BETTER Farm Bill in DC! We met with legislative policy experts and real staff members (the people that pretty much tell their legislators how to vote.) Lobbying for a non corporate grassroots roots org was a blessing. I plan to attend more fly ins in the coming years. We’re fighting for small farmers! Because we are small farmers!!!

Hats off to my fellow NYAC members from
Oklahoma and Wisconsin! We cooked up you guys!! All States will be GOATED!

Farmers Union fights for fair markets, strong safety nets, and low input costs. No more corporate monopolies, price gouging, and government stagnation. When it costs to much to farm and you make to little income.. you sell. Writing checks doesn’t solve that problem, addressing the root cause of what makes farming so expensive does.

Look out on campus for a Farmers Union Chapter! Rumor has it that there might be one starting soon!

The Monocole is a home for lobbyists. Steak is good! Power/greed sucks.

Last Speech Season, last start, last time. Semester two. Ima make this one count.

“The Man” was my cousin Nancy’s and my Grandpa Bills favorite song. To souls I miss so very much. But both loved me and supported me in Speech, Congress, and so much more. They were my biggest champions.

So I dedicate this post to them. I love you Grandpa, I love you Nancy. 🫶🏻🕊️

This past week I skipped my High School Graduation to go to DC for the National Farmers Union All States Leadership Conference. I traveled with three other people from North Dakota!

Throughout the conference, we debated mock policy, explored DC, toured farms, and did legislative work. I got to meet with Farmers Union lobbyists.. they are great people! We also sat down with DC speech writers and participated in an incredible workshop. The Speech Writers are NSDA alumni!! The farms we toured were some of the last of their kind in the DC area. All with the same message.. regulate the monopolies and stop the bailouts!

As a sidenote, I took a personal trip to Blues Alley Jazz. It’s America’s oldest Jazz Club. I’ve never had better shrimp and I’ve never had a better experience. I got to take time for myself and just be. It was beautiful. I wish we had more of that in North Dakota. I’ve been all over the country but for the first time since 2023, I got a culture shock. I loved it!!! Oh, and I got my library card at the library of Congress.. BOOM.

I ran for the National Youth Advisory Council. NYAC speaks at the national convention, organizes All States, puts together projects, works with policy, etc. After a good speech, a fun interview, and a long application.. I got in and so did Lily! Lily and I have been going to camp together for years. This moment means a lot to us. I am blessed and beyond excited to work with my fellow NYAC members as we represent NFU and fight for small farmers.

The other Council Members are from Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Each of them are unbelievably qualified and so kind! The Oklahoma AFR has an amazing Youth Program!

Easton is my GOAT. Go pAcKeRs 🧀! NYAC WO HO!!

Nick is an intern for Julie Fedorchuk! Congrats Nick! It’s fitting for us to be in DC together as Camp/Speech Alumni! See you in June bro 😼

Farmers Union gave me a home at camp. It’s where I made my first friends and so much more. Now, it’s given me the largest leadership role I’ve ever had and a free trip to DC. I consider myself incredibly blessed! Scout, Rose, and Lily are Derpy!

Let the fight for small farmers begin.

“🎶 Country roads, take me home, to the place.. I belongggg.. FARMERS UNION! SUMMER CAMP! Take me home, country roads..” ~ Adam Lahlum 2022

During the summer of seventh grade, right outside of the co-op store my friend Adam came up with that version of John Denver’s country roads. I had just met an entire group of amazing people. We sat on these cow chairs sharing stories and doing impressions of famous people. The ending photos showcase our years together. The very last photo in this post is where those cow chairs used to sit. It’s where everything started, where Nick did his dumb JFK impression, and it’s a few feet away from where I got kicked in the balls!

This year was our last year. But the group itself will keep going. That’s what makes it so perfect.. every year it grows and changes. The cow chairs are never empty! We had a great group of kids this year. They were SO fun!!! Going to a camp with 60 kids was not on my bucket list, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. 2026 will go down as one of the best camps I ever had.

Needless to say, leaving it behind makes me feel a kind of sadness I’ve never felt. I’m gonna miss that stupid broken game room and park filled with pine cones. I already miss sitting in that gym late at night having conversations with Oliveah, Rylan, Braxton, and Lily.

I ended camp by throwing magic dust into the fire with Addy, Mathew, and Maksim. It’s a tradition that is reserved for those attending their last camp. I’ve watched many of my friends, fellow campers, and former counselors throw that dust. Doing it myself felt surreal. Watching my friends do it made me cry. We are one big family, no matter when/how we met.

We were incredibly blessed to have the camp group we did. My favorite camp memory BY FAR is when some counselors told us (in a camp of just us 13 ppl) that our camp group was something special. That group changed my life. I knew that what we had was somehow different. But hearing it from other people (specifically counselors) makes it lot more special. It validates our love for one another.

Something (or some people 🤷) tells me I’ll be back.

I don’t think I have a choice ;)

‘Stop being political!’

Lol, second to last camp was peak. First time at Heart Butte instead of James River! I do love Heart Butte, but James River will always be where it started. Where I met the boys and homies.

I passed down my SYAC to a friend and swag camper😼 Needless to say, that was pretty difficult. It was an honor to serve.

Singing Viva la Compagine and throwing sand in the fire reminded me how close I was to saying goodbye. So it will make my last camp all the more hard to leave.

WHO TF LET LILY SING ‘UP ABOVE MY HEAD.’ That was evil, plotted, and dangerous. How DARE YOU.

Farmers union camp gave me my first real friendships. Which is exactly why I can’t wait for my last camp at the end of July. Our group will get back together. One last time.

And who knows? I hear being a counselor would pay pretty well next summer ;)

“The cwayons quit because they were nuuuuude in da box.”

Out of all the national tournaments I’ve been to.. this one has to be in the top three. For supplemental events we competed in a school that had no Wi-Fi or fresh air. I was sweating like never before and I hated every second of it. Except for the seconds that were spent with my friends. From competing in impromptu to outlining the fact that there were more shits in the highschool’s toilet than rank 1’s on our ballots.. I had a good time! BUTT SUCK!!!!

One of the best parts of my nationals trip was being a captain. Valley City’s newest nationals competitor Grady Samuelson did very well. I am thankful that my last duty as a captain was taking Grady to nationals. Atta boy Grady!

I got to visit Washington’s boyhood home! Which PAILS in comparison to Dwight D Eisenhower’s. Andddd I got to our glorious leader NICHOLAS STENSLAND. #wintern
I took some time to myself and watched Toy Story 5. And I finished finding Nemo.. I also got shitty pizza at Brickfire ✨ with a fellow BUM! (the soap dispenser is fine). So I guess it wasn’t all that bad.

A duo from Horace broke to quarterfinals, shattering North Dakota records in the event! Not to mention our semifinalists in the past two years within supplemental events! The groundwork is being laid, and I expect the next few years to be big for our state. Congrats to all who broke!!

The bus ride back was pretty derpy, even if some people were a little “upsetty spaghetti” 🫪😉

Four year qualifier, TikTok famous, and derp derp derp.

I’ll be back, someway.. somehow.

I may not have walked, but I still get to make a Senior Year post. Sue me!

Senior Class President position was fire! VCHS Speech, Congress, Choir, and so many teachers+friends made high school amazing. From hanging out in the Speech Room to messing around in the Crossing.. I’m gonna miss a lot. This was easily my best year of high school! Which makes it hard to leave behind.. butttttt I’m pretty excited to leave ;)

Clearly, a few incredible things happened today. But, this time, I’m gonna start with my own results.😊🚂

I cried, I’m really gonna miss this team and I’m so proud of how they did. It will be hard to leave such great people behind. My last tournament was amazing.

One of my radio ballots also made me very emotional. My judge said “I don’t have a single comment on what to do better. This might’ve been a perfect performance.“ As a HUGE radio kid.. those words meant the world to me! I believe it’s unethical to share more than that. But yeah, I’m very happy!!

I believe I’m the first kid in the State of North Dakota to become a Radio State Champion in Class A AND B. YAY! I also won Extemp and am now a State Champion in it! #Doublechamp

For the first time in three years VCHS is a Speech State Champion! Cementing our comeback. Abby, Alyssa, Matthew.. WE DID ITT!!! I’ve wanted to say that for so long. I personally have worked so hard for this. And so did MANY other Seniors/Captains! On April 25 we wanted to be able to say that we are back, we didn’t let this program die, and all our work hasn’t been in vain.. #teameffort

So, I am proud to announce that the Valley City Speech Team is BACK!!

Cadence tied for State Champ in Persuade. She finally got her Persuade Champ! I’m so proud of her. Alyssa took 2nd in impromptu, an amazing placement to conclude her senior year. Cooper tied for 3rd in inform, we worked hard on his inform, and I’m proud of what it became! State WAS HUGE. So, placing this well was a BIG feat. We won with 65.66 points (ties drop your point gains). We’re at the 2017 VCHS Speech Teams level.. we have a great future!

For some reason, I keep hearing a fire alarm in the back of my head 🧐. Speech has given me so much. From being adopted by Sheyenne during freshman year all the way to making new friends in Class B.. It’s been a wild ride. I’ll miss watching Netflix in random classrooms, I’ll miss the radio draws, I’ll miss it all. But I know my Speech Kids are ready for next year. And that’s all that matters. WE DID IT!!!!!!!!!! Thank you VCHS Speech.
