Some visions feel exactly right the moment they’re spoken aloud.

Last fall, my dear friend @queridacollective shared her dream of importing handcrafted, sustainably made clothing and goods from Mexican artisans. That dream took root almost immediately. Less than a year later, through a bit of sister magic and what feels like an alignment of the stars, it has blossomed into the new home of @casaquerida.idy.

Years ago, Monica told me, “I think you and my sister would get along.” She was right. Before long, I found myself visiting @thegoodabode in Todos Santos, and a friendship grew from a shared love of good design, thoughtful spaces, and approaching life with presence and intention.

Now these sisters have woven their talents together to create a space that feels exactly like them.

Thoughtful. Beautiful. Intentional.

It’s been a privilege to watch this dream grow from those earliest conversations into reality, and to play a small role in shaping the original brand.

There’s nothing I love more than watching good people build beautiful things and seeing their dreams come true. I’m so proud of you both and so excited to watch this next chapter unfold. ❣️

As sisters, we’ve shared everything: toys, clothes, a deep-rooted love for travel, coffee, and the hunt for the perfect thrifted find. ☕️✨

But for over 20 years, the one thing we didn’t share was a zip code. ✈️ While our Cuban-Colombian heritage kept us grounded in our roots, our lives were lived across different corners of the globe.

Casa Querida is our “coming home.” It’s the intentional blending of our two worlds: Monica’s @querida.collective (artisan goods) and Christine’s @thegoodabode (holistic interior design). 🏡

More than just a shop, this is a creative reflection of our shared history and our commitment to sustainability, community, and the beauty of handcrafted goods. We’re finally back in the same “house,” and we’re so happy you’re here with us. 🫶🏽

The space is ready for us to make magic ✨. There’s so much to do: design & build out, getting initial inventory, and addressing start-up costs.

We would LOVE some help! Click on our Kickstarter link to see how; any amount is greatly appreciated.

Mil gracias🙏🏼,

A fave is the Jalapa blusa. Its’s bright. Its happy. It’s lovely.🌈

A Jalapa blouse is a traditional, hand-embroidered Oaxacan textile garment originating from Jalapa de Díaz in Oaxaca, Mexico.

• Design & Motifs: Features intricate, full-body or detailed hand-embroidery depicting colorful regional flora and fauna—most notably flowers, leaves, and birds like peacocks.
• Materials: Typically crafted from soft rayon or cotton fabric with fine cotton thread stitching.
• Production Time: Each piece is handmade by indigenous artisans and can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to complete, making every blouse a unique, one-of-a-kind work of art.
• Fit & Style: Designed with a loose, relaxed, or boxy huipil/tunics silhouette that offers a fresh and comfortable fit.

We like to wear them with jeans or flowy pants/skirts. For the shorter crop tops, high waisted bottoms are perfect!

See one you like? DM us for details. 🫶🏽 taken in Idyllwild, California by @casaquerida.idy

We love jewelry that tells a story.

U. S. based artist, Mariana Mazon shares that her handcrafted pieces are a way to bring textiles, storytelling, and jewelry together.

Inspired by nature, spirituality, animals, and symbols, each piece is designed with intention and made mainly from brass and textiles, combining handwork with modern techniques like laser cutting.

As an added adornment to casual or dressed up style alike, a pair of these bring whimsical beauty to your look!

If you’ve ever admired the vibrant imagery of Day of the Dead, you’ve likely seen colorful skeletons dancing, playing music, or wearing elegant broad-brimmed hats. Far from spooky, these iconic figures carry deep cultural meaning! Here’s what they represent:

💀 Calacas (Skeletons)

In Mexican tradition, death isn’t treated with fear or sorrow—it’s embraced as a natural part of the human journey. Calacas are depicted as joyful and active: dancing, playing guitars, or enjoying delicious meals. They remind us that the spirit world is full of life and joy, celebrating the idea that our loved ones continue to celebrate even after passing.

👒 La Catrina (The Elegant Skeleton)

Created by illustrator José Guadalupe Posada and popularized by painter Diego Rivera, La Catrina is an elegantly dressed female skeleton wearing a fancy European-style hat. She carries a powerful message: “Todos somos calaveras” (Underneath it all, we are all skeletons). No matter wealth, status, or background, death is the great equalizer—so we should cherish life and live authentically.

🌼 The Spirit of the Celebration

Together, calacas and Catrinas turn remembrance into a joyous reunion. Rather than mourning loss, Día de los Muertos uses humor, color, and art to honor the enduring connection between the living and those who came before us. 🧡

At Casa Querida, we have several beautiful expressions of this special celebration including handmade Catrinas by @runthebeads, prints by @gene_weave_art and gorgeous Huichol beaded hats by @wexolgoods to bring in the spirit into your home.

Buen camino is one of our best sold stickers.

Literally it translates from Spanish to “good road” or “good path”.

It not only functions as a way to say “have a good journey” or “travel well”, it’s a pilgrim greeting traditionally exchanged among hikers, cyclists, and locals along the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route in Spain.

The sticker sparks one of many conversations around travel✈️.

Today a man who had been before and bought the sticker for his wife, brought her in. She shared details of how transformational her five week journey was at 63 years old.✨

It’s been on the list of experiences to do and these exchanges are encouraging.

Have you been on the Camino? If so, what made an impact on you? taken in Idyllwild, California by @casaquerida.idy

A snapshot of the treasures I sourced in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico last March.

One of our favorite things about curating our Casa Querida is introducing gems found in travels.

Handmade and whimsical, it’s not surprising these things found homes fast!

Do you like to travel?
Do you like to shop?
Do you like to shop while traveling?

Many people have commented they’d love to go to San Miguel.

What if we took you there?!

As someone who has lived there 3 years and visited countless times, I’d love to show you this UNESCO town 🇲🇽.

Nichos are shadow boxes found in many Latin American traditions.

Common Uses for Nichos
• Religious Devotion: They frequently house small statues, icons, or images of Catholic saints, the Virgin Mary, and the Sacred Heart.
• Memorials for Loved Ones: Families use them to honor and remember deceased relatives by placing photographs, names, and personal keepsakes inside.
• Day of the Dead Displays: During Día de los Muertos, nichos are placed on home altars (ofrendas) alongside marigolds and offerings to celebrate the lives of those who have passed.
• Cultural and Popular Art Tributes: Artists feature popular icons, political themes, regional figures (like Frida Kahlo), or everyday scenes using colorful mixed media

Cada Querida is rooted in working directly with artisans, and paying them what their art is worth, even if that means lower profit margins for us. What matters most to us is honoring with reverence crafts that have been passed on for generations.

These Oaxacan huipiles take 2-3 months to make, every stitch done by hand…and they are so worth the wait. ♥️ by @casaquerida.idy

Intention is everything.

When the shop was just completed, with a fresh smell of paint and nothing more…we sat in the empty space, lit a candle, cleared the area with sage and palo santo, and wrote letters of intention to what would be Casa Querida.

Since then, we continue to operate from our values and the spirit that made this all possible in the first place:
-artisanal honor
-cultural highlight
- handmade & ethical practices
-community focused
-travel inspired
-storytelling
-joy

These intentions move like mantras from the moment we open until we turn off the lights and close the door.

Share a ❤️ if you have your own daily ritual and feel free to share it too!
