Ukrainian strikes on three Yandex data centers in Sasovo, Kaluga, and Vladimir (8–11 October) coincided with a measurable but temporary disruption to Russia’s Pravda influence network.

Reconstructing all 101 domains from their own API, output fell 24% network-wide on 11 October, the day of the Vladimir strike. Activity recovered within 24 hours. The decline measured 1.77 standard deviations against a 500-day baseline.

The impact was uneven with Anti-NATO frontier domains suffered steep declines: Lithuania (−81%), Latvia (−80%), the NATO portal (−70%), Armenia (−67%), and Moldova (−63%). Western-facing flagship domains declined by just 1–6%.

Source level logs suggest the disruption stemmed from reduced output across upstream state-media feeds, including regional Sputnik channels, RT’s swentr.site, and TASS’s tass.com, rather than bot infrastructure itself.
Ukraine’s CCD independently reported roughly 50% posting declines across Pravda, InfoDefense, and Node of Time for 12 hours, followed by recovery through manual intervention or reserve capacity. by @casels_2020

Hezbollah has acknowledged ownership of approximately 780 kilograms of explosives seized by Lebanese security forces last week, including TNT and C-4, amid mounting tensions over the group’s disarmament. Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah stated that the explosives were intended for operations against Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, while sources told Reuters that the materials were designated for explosive drones. The group has demanded the return of the shipment and the release of two detained individuals, despite Lebanon’s prohibition on Hezbollah’s military activities. The revelation raises further questions about the Lebanese government’s ability to enforce its weapons restrictions and the future of the U.S.-brokered disarmament agreement.

⚠️⚠️ FOR HISTORICAL AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY ⚠️⚠️

Today in 2000, the Ramallah Lynching is committed. The Second Intifada broke out on September 28 of that year, and was characterized by a period of heightened violence that included su*cide bombings and rocket attacks against Israel, primarily conducted by the Palestinian Liberation Organization, H*mas, F*tah, and the Palestinian Islamic J*had. Following the British evacuation of the region, West Bank was annexed by Jordan from 1948-1967, and then was captured by Israel during the Six-Day War. The PLO assumed government control over much of West Bank in 1993.

On October 12, 2000, during a funeral for a Palestinian teenager named Halil Zahran, two Israeli Defense Force reservists - Vadim Norzhich and Yosef Avrahami - accidentally drove into the Palestinian Authority-controlled zone of West Bank’s de facto capital, Ramallah. The two were arrested by PA police and detained in el-Bireh. Word spread quickly, and the false premise that the two were undercover IDF agents angered many Palestinians. A crowd of roughly 1,000 Palestinian Arabs gathered outside of the building, and after starting a riot, they entered the building. Both men were subsequently k*lled and their bodies were mutilated.

One man - Aziz Salha - stuck his bloodied hands out of a window, to which the crowd replied with cheers, and this act has since become a symbol of Palestinian resistance to the Israeli government. The lynching resulted in increased tensions between Israel and the PA, and Israel responded with additional military strikes. Aziz Salha was later arrested and sentenced to life in prison, but this sentence was commuted in 2011 as part of a prisoner exchange. On October 3, 2024, Salha was k*lled by an Israeli strike during the Gaza War. taken in Ramallah, Palestine by @casels_2020

LAKURAWA TERRORISTS SEIZE MILITARY ARMORED VEHICLES AND WEAPONS AFTER ATTACK ON ROAD CONSTRUCTION SITE IN KEBBI

KEBBI STATE, NIGERIA 🇳🇬 – Radical Islamic terrorists responsible for attacking a road construction site in Kebbi State, where a Chinese national was killed, have reportedly seized military armoured vehicles and weapons.

According to security sources, the attackers overran the site and made off with the equipment during the assault. The seized assets are believed to include armored vehicles and assorted weaponry.

The attack resulted in the death of a Chinese national working at the construction site, while others were reportedly injured or displaced.

The incident underscores the growing threat posed by armed groups targeting infrastructure projects and foreign workers in parts of Nigeria's North-West and North-Central regions.

NIGERIAN ARMY RESPONSE

The Nigerian Army has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, with troops conducting aggressive pursuit operations to track down the attackers and recover the seized equipment. The Army remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives, critical national infrastructure, and foreign nationals contributing to Nigeria's development.

Security forces are intensifying operations to deny these criminal elements freedom of action and prevent further attacks on vulnerable communities and economic assets.

Further details are expected as operations continue. by @casels_2020

Today in 1915, British nurse Edith Cavell is executed by a German firing squad for aiding Allied soldiers. Born on December 4, 1865 in Norfolk, England, Cavell attended three boarding schools, and then cared for her sick father. Following his recovery, she was inspired to become a nurse. In the late 1800s, she tended to those with Typhoid, Pneumonia, Cancer, and other diseases, and in 1903, she was appointed assistant matron of St. Leonard’s Infirmary.

When the First World War broke out, Cavell went to Brussels, Belgium, to collaborate with the Red Cross. In November 1914, during the German Occupation of Belgium, Cavell began treating wounded British and French soldiers, as well as German soldiers, alongside Belgian and French civilians. To further aid British and French soldiers, she helped hide them from the Germans in her home, and they would then flee to the Netherlands, a neutral power.

By aiding Allied soldiers in escaping, Cavell violated the occupying German military law. She was arrested by German authorities for war treason on August 3, 1915, and subsequently court-martialed. While multiple international pleas for appeal were made, they were denied under Article 7 of the 1906 Geneva Convention, which forfeited protection for medical personnel if the practice was used as a cover for other actions.

Cavell never wavered in her Anglican beliefs and decisions, and is quoted as saying, “I cannot stop while there are lives to be saved.” She was executed via firing squad on October 12, 1915. Since her passing, October 12 has been commemorated on the Calendar of Saints in her name. taken in Brussels, Belgium by @casels_2020

Today in 1986, the Reykjavik Summit begins. Held between United States President Ronald Reagan and Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev in Reykjavik, Iceland, the conference lasted only two days and ended abruptly. While Reagan desired to include a discussion on the Soviet War in Afghanistan, human rights, and Jewish immigration from the USSR, Gorbachev sought to limit the conference to the subject of arms control. The end result was an agreement from neither side, though it did lead to the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. taken in Reykjavík, Iceland by @casels_2020

Today in 1899, the Second Boer War begins. The British colonization of South Africa began in 1795, following a war with the Dutch. In 1806, at the start of the Napoleonic Wars, Britain formally annexed the Cape region. Under Britain, the Cape became an important economic trade center, viewed as the halfway point for ships traveling to India. Throughout the 1800s, the British Empire conquered land from various Native African tribes. Beginning in 1833, the Boers - a group of Dutch settlers - migrated into the tribal regions of South Africa.

Here, they established the Transvaal Republic and the Orange Free State. To British authorities in South Africa, the Boers were considered unwelcome invaders, and were not allowed to vote in elections. From 1880-1881, the First Boer War was fought between the Boers and the British Empire, resulting in a Boer victory and the formal establishment of the Transvaal Republic. The Boers, however, continued to oppose many British policies, including Anglicization and diamond-mining in the region.

Britain had officially ended slavery in South Africa on January 1, 1834, which the Boers also staunchly opposed. On October 11, 1899, Boer forces attacked several British settlements. What followed was one of Britain’s largest conflicts between the Napoleonic Wars and World War I. The Boers eventually began using guerrilla tactics, and in response, Britain resorted to scorched earth policies, as well as forced labor of Boer civilians and their Native African servants in concentration camps. The war ended on May 31, 1902, with a British victory. The Treaty of Vereeniging was signed, dissolving the Transvaal Republic and the Orange Free State. taken in South Africa by @casels_2020

This investigation examines how Qatar’s influence operations in the United States allegedly connect state messaging, American lobbying firms, political access, and financial relationships.

The analysis focuses on Foreign Agents Registration Act filings, document metadata, shared language across lobbying materials, digital infrastructure, and the timing of outreach around congressional proceedings. It also examines efforts to cultivate relationships with local officials, former intelligence leaders, academic institutions, and policy organizations through sponsored events and delegations.

The findings outline a network involving public relations campaigns, quieter advisory relationships, and coordinated distribution of messaging attributed to Qatari state institutions. The investigation further examines how these activities may provide access to policymakers and shape the environment surrounding legislative decisions. by @casels_2020
