My first Ironman, first overall podium & first AG win.

I completed my Ironman debut at the inaugural IM Jacksonville in 9 hours 57 minutes and 27 seconds. Beating my goal time by nearly 36 minutes. My race recap?
The. perfect. race. DOES. NOT. EXIST.

Since starting triathlon in December of 2024, i’ve constantly been chasing the coveted “perfect race”. This whole time, I believed a perfect race meant no obstacles, no complications and no setbacks. But after 10 hours of pushing your body and mind to the limit, something will inevitably test you.

I learned that the challenges you encounter along the way aren’t what matters… What matters is how you RESPOND. How you adapt and maneuver around those hurdles, to come out stronger and with a better story at the other end.

I swam against the current in the St. Johns River for nearly 15 minutes before the tide finally turned. I lost every bottle of nutrition and got caught in a bike wreck that snapped my aero bar and ripped open my legs & arms. My body was raw and bleeding every step of that marathon and I lost far more fluid than anticipated. But I adapted. One stroke at a time. Manually gear shifting with a dangling aerobar. Stopping at every single aid station for electrolytes. Embracing the discomfort.

That’s what made this race perfect to me. Not because everything went right, but because I kept moving forward when it didn’t.

Thank you so much to my incredible support systems at @nvdmcoaching @quintanarootri @tetsuo.tri @varlo.apparel , all the volunteers at IM JAX, my amazing parents and my best friends who’ve become family over the last year. You guys are all the backbone of this process and it truly changes the entire race when familiar faces flood the course. #ironman #jacksonville #hybridathlete #athlete taken in Jacksonville, Florida by @casey.scharoff7

Kona debut.
9th in the 🌎, 4th 🇺🇸 (18–24 AG)

(RACE RECAP EACH SLIDE)

THE SWIM. Easily the most physically and mentally demanding swim I’ve ever experienced. Massive swells, choppy water, strong currents, and a 250-person mass start. For my first in-water mass start AND first 2.4-mile open-ocean swim, I couldn’t be prouder of how I kept my composure. We all got pretty banged up, but coming out of the water in 1:08 exceeded every expectation.

THE BIKE. A course filled with relentless winds, unforgiving climbs, and segments that tested every bit of mental strength. I got lucky with a little drizzle that made the first 30 miles pretty seamless, but the climb to Hawi halfway through was dark… Brutal headwinds, strong crosswind gusts, and a seemingly endless climb. Making up time on the descent, my hopes were rising until we reached the final 40 mile stretch on Queen K. Non-stop ruthless headwinds. Everybody was quiet. Everybody was hurting. But as the conditions got harder, my drive grew stronger. I started hunting down every athlete ahead of me, one by one. Moving from 15th to 7th in my AG. After 112 miles, I had never felt stronger finishing a bike leg. I wasn’t just surviving the conditions, I was proving what I was capable of.

THE MARATHON. The leg that was supposed to bring everything together… Turned into 26.2 miles of relentless abdominal pain. Every step, every breath, my entire abdomen was in knots. After MONTHS of heat training, I felt so prepared to crush this run. My heart rate was 15 beats lower than in training, and my legs felt incredible. But my stomach had other plans.

By mile 7, I knew the pain wasn’t going anywhere. I couldn’t stomach nutrition, managing just a few cups of Coke and a banana over the entire marathon.

I wanted to quit 45 minutes in, when I saw my mom for the last time before heading onto Queen K for the remaining 3 hours.

But I didn’t.

That’s what this sport is about. Thinking I’ve reached my absolute limit... Sobbing from frusteration for hours as my body was actively giving up. Only to find another 19 MILES in me.

I didn’t train for everything to go perfectly. I trained to keep going when it didn’t.

October 10th, 2026.
Tomorrows the day I make my mark on the biggest stage in this sport.

While this is only my second full Ironman, I have without a doubt earned my spot here through hundreds of hours put into the disciplines. I am the fittest I have ever been and I’m ready to conquer this island.

Kona has some of the roughest water i’ve ever seen, 20+ mph winds in all directions and heat that I’ve never felt in Miami. The energy lab radiates scorching heat from under your feet AND blazes above you, it’s absolutely wild.

I am so incredibly grateful to be here and to be given an opportunity to compete for a world title.

None of this would be possible without my friends, family, my girlfriend and my sponsors. Thank you so much to the crews at @getrawsport @quintanarootri @varlo.apparel @tetsuo.tri @asrv , and of course to my coach @kwikyle and @natashavdm81 with @nvdmcoaching .

With that said, women aged 18-39 will have a mass start at 7:40am HST. Time to EMBRACE THE DISCOMFORT.

PROJECT 7.

A couple months ago, Matt reached out and asked if I’d be interested in hopping in this project for a few days. I was in a pretty rough training rut after Ironman Jax, and his invite came at the perfect time to pull me out of it.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the shit @mattjohnson__ does.. he’s run across the state of Texas twice, completed several ultras, won a 100 miler, and most recently set out to complete 7 Ironman distance triathlons in 7 days.

I absolutely love this sport. It challenges me mentally, physically, and emotionally every single day... But Matt has taken triathlon to a level I didn’t even know was possible.

Watching his body actively shut down while he continued to put one foot in front of the other was one of the most motivating feats I’ve ever seen. There was no shortcut, no way around the fatigue, just a decision, over and over again, to keep moving forward.

I’m incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to be a small part of this project, to help Matt push toward a limit he hadn’t reached before, and to meet the incredible team behind him, who logistically perfected this event.

I’m leaving Avalon with a new perspective on what the human body and mind are capable of, invaluable insight, and a completely different perspective on the limits I’ve set for myself. Thank you matt, you’re a fucking animal.

As always… Embrace The Discomfort. taken in Avalon, New Jersey by @casey.scharoff7
