I grew up going to Dollywood. We didn’t have a lot of money, so when we could afford to go somewhere, that was pretty much the place we went. And some of my favorite childhood memories are there.

Even as a grown up, I can still think about Dollywood and almost smell that Smoky Mountain air. I can hear the blacksmith working and the music playing through the rocks as you walk through the park. It’s funny the things that stick with you. The last time I went was in 2019, and I’ve said for years it’s past time to go back.

Dolly was one of those people who had an influence on my life without ever knowing me. I never got the chance to meet her, but somehow she was still part of my childhood and then became part of my kids’ childhood too. Both of my babies received books through her Imagination Library, and we still have so many of them.

There was just something about her. Her heart, her faith, where she came from, that beautiful smile, and of course that sweet voice that you knew the second you heard it.

Her music will continue playing on my stereo, and Dollywood will always feel like a little piece of my childhood.

I never did get to meet you here on Earth, Dolly, but I’ll see you up there one day. 🤍

Rest easy, Dolly. You sure did leave this world a little better than you found it.

This time 8 years ago, I was in the hospital getting ready to meet you Westyn McCoy. Fun fact: I actually held you in until after midnight so Daddy and I could have at least one full day between our wedding anniversary and your birthday. 🤭 I asked the nurses, “Is it okay if I wait until after midnight?” They said it should be fine as long as I felt okay, so that’s exactly what we did. 😂 May 30th 1:16AM you were born.

I cannot believe you’re about to be 8 years old. Where has the time gone?

You will always be Mama’s baby boy, my turkey butt. You are so intelligent, brave, crazy funny, and have the biggest heart. Watching you grow has been one of the greatest joys of my life (bittersweet), and I can’t wait to see all the amazing things your future holds.
