Throwback to one of my favourite hikes so far in the Lake District 🥾🗻

The Lakes was the place that first really made me fall in love with hiking. Being classic type A, as soon as I heard about the Wainwrights I knew I wanted to ‘bag’ them all. But this challenge has brought me so many incredible days out in nature, including this one. Nothing is more rewarding (or healing) than a long day on the fells, with views like this.

This hike is the Newlands horseshoe.
- 20km
- 1,240m ascent

It includes 6 Wainwrights:
🗻 Catbells
🗻 Maiden Moor
🗻 High Spy
🗻 Dale Head
🗻 Hindscarth
🗻 Robinson

A long, great day out- would highly recommend a clear day to make the most of the views 😍

🗻 Ben Lomond 📍Queenstown, New Zealand 🇳🇿

This hike will always have a place in my heart- some of the best views I’ve ever seen. Queenstown itself is stunning, but the remarkables were extraordinary! A 360 degree from the peak that looked completely different from every angle- swipe to the video at the end to see the peak view 😍

We didn’t have loads of time so got the gondola up to Bob’s Peak and started from there. Up and down from here was only 12km, but a challenging hike with 1066m ascent! It was very hot and exposed, so we did it quite slowly- our total moving time was just under 4 hours. Give yourself plenty more time for some nice scenic stops! You can start from the base if you want an even more challenging route and have enough time.

After hiking back down we caught a lovely sunset and had a glass of wine at the bar in the Skyline Gondala Base before getting the Gondola back down to Queenstown.

Throwback to the hardest hike I’ve done (so far)! This Lake District hike was also my favourite so far, and ticked off 10 Wainwrights. The hardest hikes often give the biggest rewards!

The hike was over 23km, with 1650m ascent! Our moving time was 7 hours, but we probably took more like 10, taking lots of beautiful scenic stops! It took us up the following wainwrights:
🗻 Grisedale Pike
🗻 Hopegill Head
🗻Whiteside
🗻 Grassmoor
🗻 Eel Crag
🗻 Sail
🗻 Scar Crags
🗻 Causey Pike
🗻 Outerside
🗻 Barrow

There was a steep ascent near the start, but then the rest of the day was mostly lovely ridge walking.

We parked off Whinlatter Pass and completed this circular route, and had dinner out near Braithwaite at the end as we were all way too exhausted to cook!

Two Weeks in the Canadian Rockies 🇨🇦

We had the most amazing two weeks. I’m so sad it’s over, but so thankful I went 🥰🥺

Day 1: Flight into Vancouver and a little exploring

Day 2: Vancouver (Whale watching with @princeofwhaleswhalewatching , walk in Stanley Park and dinner and dip at sunset on Third Beach

Day 3: Drive to Whistler via a stop off to walk to Howe Sounds and jump into the sea. Also stopped off to Bungee at @whistlerbungee

Day 4: Panorama Ridge Hike ✨✨✨. A 30km hike and my absolute favourite day. Will do a seperate post on this!

Day 5: Scenic drive to Clearwater- took a full day to make the most of the walks and lakes to dip in on route.

Day 6: Waterfalls on Clearwater Valley Road and Scenic Drive to Jasper via Mount Robson. We got so lucky with the weather to see the elusive peak!

Day 7: Sulphur Skyline Hike (post coming for this) and a dip in Talbot Lake

Day 8: White Water Rafting in Jasper and Kayaking and a dip in Maligne Lake

Day 9: The absolute beautiful drive that is Icefields Parkway 🥰 We took a full day to make the most of the walks, lakes and scenic stops along the way

Day 10: Sunrise hike at Lake Louise (hike post coming for this) and trip to Lake Moraine. Visiting these lakes requires pre-planning as access is limited so we were very thankful to make this happen 🥰

Day 11: Lake Louise Gondola for a hike and lunch at the top. Afternoon spent in the beautiful Yoho National Park visiting Takakkaw Falls and Emerald Lake.

Day 12: Bow Valley Parkway Drive with stops on route and a hike to upper and lower viewpoints on Johnston Canyon. We got so lucky and saw a mama bear and three cubs on our way to visit Mount Norquay Gondola 🥺🥺. Finished our day wildlife spotting and found elk, long horned sheep and deer.

Day 13: Explored more of Banff visiting the town, walk around Lake Vermilion, Lake Johnson, Two Jack Lake and more wildlife spotting.

Day 14: Our last day in the rockies. We explored Kananaskis (Spray Lake and Lower and Upper Kananaskis Lakes). Drove out of Rockies to Calgary 😭

Day 15: Morning explore of Calgary and flight home!

Lovely little walk straight from our campsite during our recent trip to the lakes. Perfect place for a dip and we had the waterfall to ourselves 🥰

📍Whorneyside Force

The weather held out until we were tucked up back in our tent after the walk.

📍Lake District

🗻 Pavey Ark (via Jack’s Rake) and Harrison Stickle
🥾 8km, 900m ascent

Two more Wainwrights ticked off and our first grade 1 scramble. A nice scramble route to start out with as a lot of the scramble section was not overly exposed.

We were lucky with the weather- it was due to rain all day leading up to our trip, but the rain held off until we were back at our campsite after the hike. We got some stunning views over the valley and of Stickle Tarn and managed to finish the scramble section before we were up in the clouds.

There are many more peaks nearby to turn this into a longer walk if wanted, but with the weather turning we decided to just bag the two, which means we get to come back for another walk in this area 🥰

This one felt like a lovely little adventure!

📍Loughrigg Fell, Lake District

What a beautiful little hike ticking off my 68th Wainwright 🗻

We parked near White Moss Wood, crossed the stream and hiked via Loughrigg Terrace until we reached the summit. The views along the terrace are some of my favourites of the Lakes so far! We then hiked back via Rydal Caves, which was pretty cool but very busy.

🥾5.22km, 350m ascent

Perfect way to wrap up a beautiful summer ☀️

I’m not always hiking: collection of other things I have done this summer.

1. Catching sunsets: I love a sunset and try to get to a local spot on a clear night- perfect way to end the day!

2. Sunrise dip: I do less of these in summer as sunrise is so early- did this one the other day and it was perfect 🥰

3. Catching up with friends: Lots of lovely weekends hosting or travelling to see people 👯

4. Family time

5. Paddleboarding and beach bbqs: So lucky to live close to amazing beaches & spending weekday evenings at the beach.

6. Chilling with my cat- I have to rest so much more now with my lovely chronic illnesses- my cat makes this so much better🥰 I’m trying to embrace it.

7. Camping: Outdoor time is my absolute favourite.

8. Dips: Water is my happy place.

9. Date nights

10. Finding nice places that are coeliac safe 🥰

11. Weddings: we have truly been in our wedding era the last few years.

12. Reading (with my cat): I’ve read so much more this last year and it’s been so nice. Really helps me to rest whilst still feeling like I’ve had a good time.

13. Chips at the beach. I eat really well to help manage my conditions, but it’s so important to have little bits of joy too and find a balance.

14. Board games

15. Annual family holiday: this year was west wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

So nice to look back and reflect on all the special moments I’ve had this summer 🥰

Tongariro Alpine Crossing 🗻🥾
📍New Zealand

We had such bad weather for this hike, but we were so lucky it went ahead, as the shuttles were cancelled for weeks leading to our hike day due to bad weather!

A lot of the hike we had zero visibility, but the clouds opened up a bit for us to see the Emerald Lakes 🥰 Would love to do this hike again one day and see it in its full glory!

🥾 23km, 880m ascent

Overall one of my favourite hikes in New Zealand 🇳🇿

📍Langland Bay to Three Cliffs Bay, The Gower

Three Cliffs Bay is so stunning- lucky to have this on our South Wales coast ☀️

Lovely one-way hike along the Wales Coast Path. We did this one the week after we got back from a month in NZ- we were missing NZ so much, it was nice to have a reminder of how beautiful our home country is too 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
