Alessandro and Andrea Motti have transformed their grandmother’s home into the lake’s first albergo diffuso, a move designed to steer clear of the stuffy hotel trope in favor of genuine hospitality. The eight rooms are unapologetically nostalgic—early 1900s tiled floors and furniture that hasn’t moved since their nonna lived there—but the real pull is the massive lake-view windows that render TVs obsolete.

What a wonderful stay at Alessandro and Andrea’s Albergo Cà Spiga on Lake Como. We spent two short nights here last month and felt the love and warmth that has gone into restoring the brothers’ grandmother’s historic family home into a place that feels like you’re staying with your own family.

Gingham curtains, pink walls, tiled floors, pots and pans hanging from the kitchen ceiling, breakfast on the terrace, and long chats with other guests. In every way, we loved our stay here. @caspiga

This place is more than just a stay — it’s a family story. In the late 1800s, Cetti Carlo was born right here in Laglio. The eldest of seven orphaned brothers, he moved to Milan to support his family and ended up living in via della Spiga — now the heart of the city’s fashion district, but back then just another quiet street. That nickname, Spiga, followed him home. Generations later, his great-grandsons Alessandro and Andrea have brought the family house back to life — naming it in his honour and restoring every stone with care.⁠

Ca’ Spiga is the first Albergo Diffuso officially recognised in the Province of Como — a hospitality concept that honours traditional village life by renovating existing homes rather than building anew. Staying here means being part of that philosophy: respectful, soulful, rooted.⁠
