In about a year, I’ll be the published author of a duology, and I still can’t believe my job IS to think about the Roman Empire 🤩

ICYMI—ICARUS FELL is now slated for release in SUMMER 2027, not fall! Stressful news for me (nervous) but exciting for readers, who will have Felix and Loren back in their hands months sooner than planned.

This sequel to VESUVIUS follows Felix and Loren to Rome, where as the inauguration of the colosseum looms, ghosts from their pasts emerge with new ultimatums—restore balance between the spirit world and mortal, or all hell will break loose… literally.

Please consider adding ICARUS FELL on Goodreads! It’s the BEST way to show support for a book in the early stages! And stay tuned for news about the street team I’m putting together!

I can’t promise you fair sky above
Can’t promise you kind road below
But I’ll walk beside you, love
Any way the wind blows ☀️

New VESUVIUS art reveal! It’s been ages since I last commissioned character art. I’m so, so pleased with the stunning work @cjowoart did with Felix and Loren, captured them so perfectly that you can just feel the chemistry. I highly suggest working with them!

My boys are so Orpheus and Eurydice coded, especially in the sequel :’)

For fans of The Song of Achilles and Hadestown, VESUVIUS is a YA historical fantasy novel set in the final days of Pompeii. With a scorching MM romance and Ancient Roman mythology, it’s a meet-cute with an explosive fallout.

Loren, an oracle, is plagued by nightmares of Pompeii’s destruction. Visions centering Felix, the thief of a mysterious godly relic… and the boy Loren is falling in love with.

Find it on shelves everywhere, including as a special edition hardcover, audiobook, and ebook. And add the sequel ICARUS FELL on Goodreads before it releases next summer!

Let the games begin. 🪽

Introducing ICARUS FELL, the sequel to VESUVIUS, coming Fall 2027 from @peachtreeteen—and you can add it on Goodreads now!

In the wake of Pompeii’s devastation, Felix and Loren head to Rome where—as the inauguration of the Colosseum looms—ghosts of the past threaten to destroy the future the boys are working to build.

I’m still in shock that ICARUS FELL is happening, and that I get to properly finish the story I set out to tell 6 years ago. This project has been in the works as long as VESUVIUS, and it’s only thanks to you (yes, the reader!) that it’s a reality. The reaction to VESUVIUS has been so strong and positive that my publisher was all-in on green-lighting the sequel.

So many people to thank:

My editor @zoie.janelle for continuing to challenge my craft—and for understanding exactly what I’m trying to do, even when I can’t put it into words myself.

My agent @allegramartsch for your attention to detail, steady hand, and willingness to jump right in. You’ve been an extraordinary advocate so far, and I can’t wait for more adventures in publishing together.

And my former agent @annalise.errico for being the first supporter of the sequel.

Plus my friends and readers who have hyped the book, made fanart, cosplayed, left a review, attended signings, requested it from their library, and more. I can never thank you all enough.

Come 2027, I’ll be the author of a duology!!!

Stay tuned for more soon. I can’t wait to share all the secrets I’ve been keeping.

Add ICARUS FELL on Goodreads!

Just saying, if your book club picks VESUVIUS as its monthly read, I’ll fix you all the way up with goodies—including a special letter from me! ☺️✨

This package is being sent to a library in the UK for their queer fiction book club after they so kindly reached out! I truly love sending my stickers and character art prints all over the world, so please never hesitate to message and ask.

Book clubs and libraries are exactly the kind of community building groups we need in our world right now. If you’re part of one, or are looking to set one up, just know that you’re making a much bigger impact than you probably even realize. Sending some swag is the very least I can do to support you!

Curious how I combined mythology, history, and other media inspiration into an original cosplay design of the Greek god Hermes?

Here I breakdown my vision, my design process, and my creative choices to portray Hermes as I imagine him—a richly-textured, colorful scrap collector who keeps mementos from his adventures.

Too often the ancient world is portrayed only by stark white marble, but in reality, Ancient Greece and Rome were brilliantly colored. Through paintings, clothing, textiles, mosaics, and sculpture, ancient people demonstrated their rich culture and trade ties to other civilizations around the world. It was important for me to capture this in my costume. I leaned heavily on Minoan art for colorways and motifs!

Other influences include Hermes from Hades game, patchwork quilts, books, fanart, statues, and characters from my own novel VESUVIUS.

If you’re planning to make an original design for a cosplay, I hope this helps your creative process! My advice is always to push your designs as far as you can take them. I can’t wait to continue developing this cosplay the more I wear it.

And if YOU love Hermes, check out my novel VESUVIUS and the sequel ICARUS FELL, where he features prominently (as his Roman counterpart Mercury). VESUVIUS is out now wherever books are sold, and you can preorder ICARUS FELL!

A god with feathers on their feet
Who can help you to your final destination
Mister Hermes—that’s ME ✨🪽

Debuting my Hermes from @hadestown cosplay at @fanxsaltlake today! Inspired by the gorgeous styling of @jharrisonghee who is a major role model for me as a nonbinary person. I hope I’ve done the costume justice :’)

Fabric from @moodfabrics, picked up the day after I saw Hadestown on Broadway this spring. As soon as I saw JHG in the role, I knew I needed to sew this costume for myself.

Had a lovely day meeting readers, signing books, and swishing my jacket! See you all tomorrow!

“I am nothing. And as you’ve always said, you want nothing.”

🦊

Had the loveliest day one of @fanxsaltlake cosplaying as Neil Josten from All For The Game + signing books + yapping on panels + meeting readers!

And it wouldn’t be FanX without obligatory nonsense with @westbergcosplay as the gorgeous Glinda ✨

See you all tomorrow!

FanX cosplay wrap-up ✨🪽🦊

This year, despite being an author guest again, I returned to my roots as a cosplayer and somehow pulled off three new cosplays for each day. I’ve realized that positioning myself as a “professional” author is simply not my journey. I’m there to be SILLY!!!

🦊 Neil Josten from All For The Game
🪽 Hermes from Hadestown
✨ Hermes from Greek mythology

To everyone who attended my panels, bought a copy of VESUVIUS, or met me in my signing line, thank you. To all the cosplay friends new and old who I got to hang out with, thank you! To FanX and the Printed Garden booth, THANK YOU!!

Here’s to next year—when ICARUS FELL is out!
