Join us for a Halloween Creature Feature at Torrey Pines State Beach! 🌊🎃

Discover the fascinating animals behind some of Halloween’s spookiest stories. Get an up-close look at real specimens, including bats, crows, and other mysterious creatures, while learning about their adaptations, behaviors, and common myths.

VANNIE—the Video Access and Immersive Experiences van—will also be on hand to help you take a closer look at creepy-crawly bugs, seaweed, and other marine materials. You may be surprised by what you discover; things are often more than they appear to be up close!

Throughout October, the Calavera Catrina Fashion Gallery invites visitors to explore the cultural traditions of Día de los Muertos while viewing winning designs from the 2024 and 2025 Catrina contests.
Visit Old Town San Diego State Historic Park to experience the iconic imagery of ‘La Catrina’ and create unforgettable memories.

Keeping the coast clean means protecting the rocks too!

We've noticed an increase in names and messages being carved into the sandstone at Torrey Pines State Beach. While it may seem like a harmless way to leave your mark, sandstone is fragile and naturally prone to erosion.

Carving into the rock causes additional damage and permanently changes the landscape that plants, wildlife, and visitors come here to enjoy. 🌿🦎

Help us protect the coast:
🪨Don't carve into or scratch the rocks.
📸Take a photo instead.
🌊Leave the landscape as you found it.

Please remember that vandalism of any kind is prohibited. Help us protect the natural beauty of Torrey Pines by leaving the sandstone untouched. 💙

Your shampoo belongs in the shower, not the ocean!

At Torrey Pines, our beach showers are for rinsing off sand and salt with water only. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, and other personal care products can wash directly into our coastal environment, where they can harm the sensitive habitats and wildlife that call it home. 🌊🪸🐦

So when you hit the beach showers, skip the suds and rinse with water only!

A little action makes a big difference. 💙

When the watcher becomes the watched…This top ‘Summer Starts Here’ photo contest winner’s subject wasn’t just posing, it was watching. Our Environmental Scientist Aly was surveying birds at Border Field State Park when she spotted this barn owl watching her, watching them. Aly captured its perfectly heart-shaped face, staring right into the lens as it sat perched on a weathered branch.
Here’s what she said about her photo: “Summer for me means lots of time in the field doing bird surveys. We’re out there to observe the birds, but this barn owl came to check us out and reminded us that they’re watching us too.”

📢Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve will be closed beginning Tuesday, September 22, 2026.📢 The closure is part of the next phase of an ongoing multiyear improvement project to upgrade utilities, replace an old restroom building, and improve accessibility between Torrey Pines Lodge, upper parking lots, and the new restroom.

Additional information about the project, including the reopening date will be shared here, as well as at https://www.parks.ca.gov/torreyutilityproject (link in bio).

Help us celebrate Mexico’s fight for independence with a day full of live entertainment and family fun to honor the cultures and traditions of the holiday.

Did someone say live entertainment? Starting at 12 P.M. Our line-up is filled with performing artists that are ready to fill the park with life.
