Sweetness is an inheritance. 🌾🖤 So grateful to be part of Sweet Freedom Farm’s annual Sorghum Harvest Festival—to celebrate abundance, learn together, and savor the sweetness of community.

An altar honoring Black ancestors held offerings of sorghum, amaranth, flowers, and more. The harvest rested beside their portraits, reminding us that our inheritance includes seeds, knowledge, courage, and care.

With deep roots in African foodways, sorghum carries generations of nourishment, ingenuity, and survival. Growing it today is a practice of ancestral healing: reconnecting with traditions that sustained communities through displacement and reclaiming our relationship with land as a source of belonging and joy.

It is also wealth reclamation in practice. Seeds saved. Knowledge shared. Farmers earning a livelihood. Communities shaping how food is grown, processed, and distributed—building resources and possibilities for generations to come.

We also visited the sugar shack, learning how sap from the maple trees they tap becomes syrup, and enjoyed delicious sorghum cookies topped with ice cream. Such a beautiful taste of what land, patient tending, and creativity can offer.

Through the @webatuckfarmers Collaborative, WILDSEED, @sweetfreedomfarm and @rocksteadyfarm are growing this vision through land access, shared infrastructure, and cooperation.

Sweet Freedom’s work bringing fresh food to incarcerated people extends that care beyond prison walls, affirming everyone’s right to nourishment and dignity.

Thank you, Sweet Freedom, for gathering us around the sweetness of this work. May what we seed become sustenance, healing, and freedom for those who follow.

Thank you to Sweet Freedom Farm for having us at your second annual Sorghum Harvest Festival. Went in knowing almost nothing to learning the growing process, drying, how it's processed and even got to check out the coolest maple tap setup I've ever seen, felt like everywhere I looked there was tube weaved through the trees.

The work you’re doing to connect farms and farmers with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people is so inspiring. From the educatiy on creating more farmers to the cohorts creating land stewards, you're building out an ecosystem and it's beautiful to see.

We hope to make an impact just as meaningful one day. taken in Germantown, New York by @catalystcollaborativefarm

We gathered with full cups, full hearts, and abundance overflowing.

Our Tea & Tinctures gathering brought BIPOC philanthropy leaders to WILDSEED to slow down, nourish ourselves, and pour into one another.

Over good food, delicious teas, and healing tinctures, we shared stories, resources, connections, and possibilities—tending our collective wellness alongside the futures we’re growing.

Grateful for everyone who brought their wisdom, warmth, and generosity to the table. May what we seeded keep blooming. 🍵🌺

Swipe to meet the farmers and land stewards behind WVFC, and get a first look at the new WILDSEED & Rock Steady barn designs 👀🔥

Together we’re building shared systems for growing, processing, and moving food, and stronger pathways for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ farmers and food entrepreneurs to thrive. Everything we learn, we’ll share, so others can grow what they imagine for their own people and place.

$6M has taken root. $9M to grow.

Join us to learn, imagine, and practice moving resources differently.

🌱 MOVE MONEY. GROW WORLDS.

I used to joke that I was a professional beggar when I raised money in NYC. Then I came to @wildseedcommunity , a place born of a reparations gift, and the joke stopped being funny. I was re-grounded in how much wealth has been extracted from our communities, and how much repair is possible when we work with allies to return it.

That’s the practice behind our Resource Mobilization Teams at WVFC. We’ve been sharing what we’re learning with budding food hubs and cooperatives, and in workshops at the BLACC Conference with @bfu_nys and at We the Land with @nefoclandtrust. Our aim isn’t just our own success. It’s easier lives for small and beginning farms across the region and beyond.

On October 6, join us for a Reparative Capital Learning + Resource Exchange with Jessica Norwood, Veronica Garcia, and Elspeth Gilmore, with poetry and grounding from Naima Penniman. Their work has shaped how so many of us move in this world.

Two ways to practice right away:
🌱 Give to the WVFC capital campaign
🌱 Move investment capital through our Walden Mutual Local Impact CD

$15M campaign. Nearly $6M already taken root. Construction underway.

Farmers, movement workers, and like-hearted friends are all welcome. Register even if you can’t attend, because everyone who registers gets the recording.

😍 Look at the beautiful and brilliant people coming together on Oct 6 for this conversation 🌱🔥

A whole ecosystem of people has been dreaming, organizing, resourcing, designing—and now building—the Webatuck Valley Farm Collaborative.

Together, we’ve already raised $6 MILLION toward our $15M vision. Seeds are rooted and dreams are taking flight. Now we’re expanding the circle.

On October 6, we’re gathering for MOVE MONEY. GROW WORLDS: a Reparative Capital Learning + Resource Exchange to explore what becomes possible when we move resources differently—and then actually practice it.

And y’all…the people joining us 💚 Jessica, Veronica. Elspeth. Naima are folks I love, trust, learn from, and organize alongside. Between us are decades of experimenting with how we move money, reclaim wealth, share power, heal our relationships to resources, tend land, and build what comes next.

We cannot wait to merge these worlds together. COME THROUGH! There will be many pathways to grow this dream with us.

🌱 GIVE — Move philanthropic resources into our $15M capital campaign.

🌱 INVEST — Move savings or investment capital into the WVFC Local Impact CD with Walden Mutual @waldenmutual and help finance the build while earning interest.

🌱 CONNECT — Open a door. Introduce us to people and institutions with resources to move.

🌱 ORGANIZE — Bring WVFC into your donor circle, family, board, investment committee, or community.

🌱 AMPLIFY — Share this. Invite your people. Help us grow the circle.

You don’t need to have millions to help move millions. Bring your curiosity and imagination.

$6M has taken root. Now let’s grow the rest, together.

🌱 MOVE MONEY. GROW WORLDS.

Had a great weekend connecting with some Northeast world builders at @wildseedsfund Konbit.

Exploring food forests, learning about nature based solutions, and seeing swales and hillside setups in action. It's stunning to see everything we talk about at conferences all on one land.

The weekend also gave us a whole new appreciation for rain and how much life it brings with it. It was the dark backdrop that made everything pop. The apples looked richer and redder, the collards were a deeper green, and the colors all around felt more vibrant.

We really appreciate being in community and learning alongside future thinking landowners, farmers, stewards, and advocates who are thinking deeply about what we can build toward.

A more self sufficient ecosystem. A more connected way of living with the land.

We're grateful to be part of the conversation and excited to keep learning, building, and getting my hands in the soil. taken in Millerton, New York by @catalystcollaborativefarm

Come through and harvest with us at our Roots of Abundance Konbit Day on Saturday, September 26th where you’ll have an opportunity to bask in the bounty of our food forest and take home produce from other local farms.

Our Konbit Days are inspired by the Haitian Creole tradition of mutual aid. These gatherings annually bring together over 100 BIPOC, immigrant, and working-class community members annually to plant, harvest, weed, eat and build together in a spirit of collective care and shared labor.

This family-friendly gathering is an opportunity to connect with the land, one another, and the abundance of the season

The day will explore regenerative farming practices, herbal creations, tea tastings, hands–on learning, and an introduction to WILDSEEDs Learning Grove.

Come ready to learn, create, nourish and celebrate together.

Space is limited for this event. Please use this registration link in our to secure your spot today!

Our communities deserve better than the cheapest food option. Our farmers deserve better than the lowest price. That's why the Good Food NY Bill is so important.

In this segment of the Capitol Pressroom, Jessica Gilbert-Overland with the Good Food Buffalo Coalition and Monti Lawson with Catalyst Collaborative Farm discuss how the Good Food NY Bill will benefit NY farmers, workers, and communities.

Listen now and learn why so many NY farmers, unions, municipalities, and residents are calling for the Good Food NY Bill to be signed into law!

BIG NEWS!
We know we have been hinting at a big infrastructure project happening this year. Today we are ready to share more!

After years of collaborative work across the Hudson Valley — training farmers, expanding land access, and distributing culturally relevant food to our communities — @rocksteadyfarm, @sweetfreedomfarm, and @wildseedcommunity are breaking ground on something that will change regional food access for the good.

The WEBATUCK VALLEY FARM COLLABORATIVE (WVFC), was established in 2023, as a regional food sovereignty and farm cooperative development initiative rooted in a larger movement for cultural reclamation, economic & racial justice, and community healing.

The current food system is built on exploited labor and land, leaving many hungry and malnourished despite excess and waste. WVFC works with communities within, against, and beyond this broken system to build resilient local economies.

This year, that vision takes physical form.

We are renovating two barns:

One at @rocksteadyfarm — winterizing our barns, expanding cold storage threefold for aggregation, building a much larger wash-pack space with new equipment, a retail store, new CSA pick-up, staff space, workplace kitchen, and short-term housing for trainees and facilitators.

One at @wildseedcommunity — a huge gorgeous event space and an added-value commercial kitchen.

@sweetfreedomfarm — stewarding grain processing equipment and space that has been a huge need for small to mid-sized grain producers.

This shared infrastructure will expand the capacity of over a dozen BIPOC- and LGBTQ+ led farms to wash, store, and process food year-round.

It's an investment in a more resilient future for our farmers.

Stay tuned to see how you can get involved!
