“I used to plait my own hair ”

Zoe Monohan contemporary dancer & Bronte Naylor creative technologist.

Zoe Monohan and Brontë Naylor have developed a secret language of latency, transmorphic bodies and plaits of non-existent hair. The duo handballs the burden of “selfhood” onto the body standing closest.

Naylor uses human-centred design to further magnetise the performance through the use of code and signature layered-set-like imagery; the work traces an awkward, trying lineage of touch, love and intimacy.

‘I wanted the choreography to feel so intimate and unguarded that the audience almost questions whether they should be watching… “ Monohan

Anatomy of a Stream
Jacinta Durney & Ellie Hannon

Anatomy of a Stream is a choreographic inquiry into what emerges when bodies, relationships and ecosystems move between states of flow and control. Movement of water becomes both material and metaphor, tracing the tensions between fluidity and constraint, transformation and adaptation.

Drawing on the concept of counter-mapping, artist Ellie follows a creek as it meanders from suburban forest to concrete urban channel. A sound work produced in collaboration with Clint Topic and textile installation become new forms of bathymetry, examining the changing characteristics of the creek’s infrastructures and ecologies. Field recordings of ripples, tumbling stones, submerged movement and industry form an abstracted visual and sonic language responsive to the creek’s shifting conditions.

Dancer Jacinta responds through an embodied exploration of algae, an organism that sustains aquatic life while also signalling ecological stress. Her movements shift between fluidity and constraint, performing currents, eddies and ripples alongside the pressures of altered waterways and human control.

essEnce of moVemEnt
JORDAN BRETHERTON (@jrbretho96) X MARLENE HOUSTON (@marlyhart)

‘essEnce of moVemEnt’ is a collaborative exchange between sculptor Marlene Houston and dancer Jordan Bretherton, where figurative form and embodied movement shape one another in an evolving dialogue.

Houston’s sculptures, created with a sensitivity to dance and the expressive language of the body, hold gestures that suggest joy, connection, and the quiet emotional currents shared across human experience. Each form carries an echo of movement — a moment suspended, waiting to be met.

Bretherton’s choreographic practice responds to these forms through touch, intuition, and attentive presence. In their contours, he encounters relational impressions familiar to many: traces of encounters, connections, and the subtle emotional imprints bodies accumulate over time. His movement extends the sculptures’ gestures, animating them into a living conversation.

Together, Houston and Bretherton create a space where stillness and motion coauthor meaning with a soundscape composed by Jett Everett (@jettybuoy), ‘essEnce of moVemEnt’ becomes a poetic reflection on how relationships shape us, how movement reveals what lingers within, and how dance and sculpture, in collaboration, can evoke a shared sense of joy, memory, and human continuity.
