“Delani does something not many can—break all the rules and emerge victorious. Completely original and remarkably intelligent, UNCLAIMED PROPERTY secures its place among the rising voices of modern horror.”

I am so honored to officially share the cover reveal for @cat_winedark’s UNCLAIMED PROPERTY, releasing June 17th (which means we’re release date buddies!), crafted by one of my favorite designers and storytellers @druhuf 🖤

Watching this novella from conception to finished product has been such a joy. I am overwhelmed with pride, love, and support for this incredible human who lifts and supports everyone around her.

I know preorders drop soon…and read my blurb above. You don’t wanna miss it. by @catdelani

A quick photo of Maui in one of the closets holding books until we get shelves reassembled. Why? Because it’s @tonyshorrorcorner’s birthday and we’ve been so busy with moving I didn’t plan a different post. 😅

Everyone go wish my husband the happiest of birthdays 🫶🏻 by @catdelani

Maui has a love/hate relationship with moving
•
Love: extra shelf space, lots of boxes and packing materials to play in, hide in & chew, plus: new toys (that he doesn’t know about yet).
•
Hate: lots of changes 😂
•
We’re about to be in the thick of actually moving things into the new place so the excitement levels are skyrocketing!!

Yesterday might have been one of the BEST Publication Days there is… and this isn’t even everything!
•
@rossonkeith’s Crone and @chrispanatier’s Worry Box are two of my favorite reads of the year so far. @catdelani & I are 60% into @almakatsu’s Incarnate and it’s fantastic. @tananarivedue’s Mazywood is on my very soon tbr and I can’t wait.
•
Have you read these yet? Thoughts? Did you also have an excellent bookmail day yesterday?
•
Happy Pub day, you four, and to all the others who aren’t featured here too!

How many books do you think we own?
•
We’re moving! Upgrading to a better, more adult apartment for the newly weds 💁🏻‍♂️ But with that, comes packing all our books…
•
And so it begins… the move-out process 😅 and of course it’s on the heels of busy season so it’s a bit chaotic in the Petro household, but Cat’s holding it down and getting us in an amazing spot while Tony slaves away at work.
•
We’re excited and I’m sure there’s going to be more photo evidence of our packed boxes and this adventure.
•
Happy Tuesday, nerds!

Happy Birthday, @stephenking!!
•
What’s your favorite Stephen King moment/book/movie/story, etc.?
•
When in Maine for our honeymoon, of course we stopped by King’s iconic house in Bangor.
•
King is a legend and has done so much for the horror genre and is definitely a big part in what we’re seeing absolutely THRIVE today.
•
Happiest of birthdays to the King of Horror, and here’s to many more 🍻
•
Happy Monday, nerds!

@owlcrate put together an absolutely STUNNING edition of one of the best books of the year: @ceejthemoment’s Headlights
•
Look at the details!! The design is incredible, the art is amazing. This book is beautiful; the physical copy and the story itself.
•
If you haven’t read Headlights yet, you need to. If you have, what did you think?
•
Happy Friday, nerds!

Almost one week to go til the new @rossonkeith hits shelves!

Crone is one of my favorite reads of this year so far. I always expect Keith to crank it to 11, but man, on this one he broke the dial. It’s a gritty criminal story with a torn up bleeding heart clawing for survival. I never had any idea where things were going, and I certainly didn’t expect to cry, but cry I did because the human element in this monstrous rampage is strong and painful as hell. Knowing the kernels of truth in the fiction make it even more poignant.

Don’t miss this one, it’s a perfect read to start spooky season! It was maybe less a perfect read for @tonyshorrorcorner and I to start on our honeymoon… but we certainly weren’t complaining. We love what we love! by @catdelani

Best @aardvarkbookclub month yet!?
•
It’s been a while since @catdelani & I had a 3-book month, but Aardvark left us no choice when THESE 3 books were options!
•
@rossonkeith’s Crone and @scotthawkinswrites’s Blacktail are both top books of the year for me, and @tananarivedue’s Mazywood is one of my most-anticipated.
•
What were your Aardvark choices this month? Have you read these? Are you excited to? If you haven’t, you need to.
•
Happy Saturday, nerds!

Break out of the frame…

Is typing this review fresh off a different read a good idea? Maybe not. But do I have my reasons? Absolutely. But that’s spoiler territory so 🤐

When I heard @joshmalerman was giving us an ART horror book I knew I was going to love it. I just didn’t realize how Much. It is easily my new favorite of his, and I think it would be even without my paint covered biases.

Pictures of You is a compelling look into the making of a painting and, through that frame (ha), the making of a person. Of a life. The line between painting a portrait and writing a character aren’t so very different, and as someone always fascinated by the interplay of art forms, this book was an absolute delight.

But don’t worry, it’s still horrifying. The tension is handled masterfully. @tonyshorrorcorner and I flew through reading this because we just couldn’t put it down. And we really loved the characters. I know Tony said it in his review too, but man, the similarities between him and Jack? I couldn’t help but love that character. And on a fun (concerning?) flipside, I adored Emily. Empathized with her, felt seen by her.

So what happens when you mix an artistic obsession, remarkably relatable characters, and a deeply concerning, riveting, human horror? You get a book of the year contender. I did, anyway!

This comes out in ONE WEEK. I’m excited to hang it on the wa—add it to your shelves. 🎨 by @catdelani

TOMORROW 🐺

I’m still catching up on life but I could not miss the chance to talk about one of my most anticipated books of the year ahead of its release.

I’m not alone in my zealous reverence for The Library at Mount Char, so I know my excitement for another book by @scotthawkinswrites is shared by many of you. If you haven’t heard yet—Blacktail is a worthy successor.

As @tonyshorrorcorner said in his own review, talking about Blacktail without spoilers is a tall order. But even with spoilers, like Char, it’d be difficult to describe. There’s a distinct lack of genre or convention, a lack that only serves to intensify the power and heart of Story the thrums through these pages.

Blacktail is a force of nature, a spinning of myth, a reckoning from the wild. The empathy it takes and evokes is remarkably needed in a world disconnected from itself. It is my dearest hope that you will follow Blacktails path not in deed but in reflection.

I know I will be for a long time.

If you haven’t read this, this all probably sounds like hyperbole. But if you have read it, I think you’ll understand. I hope so, anyway. And please let me know because I really do want to talk about this book forever. by @catdelani
