POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Do you have an issue and you’re wondering who to contact for support? 🤔

In Wales, you have three different types of elected representatives who can help support you:

🏘️ Local Councillor: Local council services and issues (grass cutting, bin collections, council tax, local housing and planning)

🏥 Senedd Member (MS): Welsh public services and devolved issues (NHS, Transport, Housing, Education)

🏛️ Member of Parliament (MP): UK Government services and national issues (Benefits, pensions, taxation, immigration, foreign affairs)

You can also find out who your elected representatives are here: writetothem.com

If you’re still unsure who is best placed to help, get in touch with my office and we’ll do our best to point you in the right direction. 👋 taken in Monmouthshire by @catherine.fookes

Two years ago, you elected me as your MP.

Monmouthshire has been my home for over 25 years, and it’s the biggest honour of my life to represent it, and my neighbours, in Parliament.

Together, we have worked together and achieved so much:

✉️ Supporting residents through important casework, responding to 22,000 emails and solving over 2000 individual issues.

🤝 Listening to residents through over 260 meetings, visits, coffee mornings and surgeries

🗣️ Raising resident’s concerns in Parliament more than 140 times

🌊 Helping clean up our rivers by developing new legislation to clamp down on polluting water bosses and securing £1M to clean up the River Wye

🚆 Supporting local transport by securing development of a new train station in Magor through £445M from UK Government for South Wales rail

🏗️ Building literal bridges in areas like Monmouth where I successfully lobbied for £1M to repair Inglis Bridge

Thank you to everyone who placed their trust in me. I can’t wait to see what we achieve together over the next year. taken in Monmouthshire by @catherine.fookes

The Prime Minister Andy Burnham wants to bring us closer to the EU - and I know many businesses and farmers across Monmouthshire will welcome this. 🇬🇧🇪🇺

It could mean less red tape, lower costs, and for farmers, more opportunities to export Welsh lamb and beef to our closest trading partner.

I asked the Prime Minister what this could mean for Welsh farmers, here’s what he had to say. by @catherine.fookes

Introducing my FIRST Monmouthshire Community Hero - Jim Handley! 👏

Jim is an absolute inspiration. Ten years ago, he set up a litter-picking group and has been organising regular litter picks across Monmouth ever since.

Not only has he helped keep our streets and parks clean, he’s also brought people together, encouraging others to volunteer and get involved in their community.

A HUGE thank you to Jim for everything he does across Monmouthshire. He’s an inspiration to us all!

I recently attended two more National Emergency Briefing screenings – one in Llanishen and one in Abergavenny. 🌍

I’ve been to multiple screenings across Monmouthshire with residents, and I believe it is essential viewing for all of us to better understand the seriousness and scale of the climate crisis we’re facing.

It’s been really interesting listening to everyone’s reaction to the film, and I’m proud to be part of a community that cares deeply about climate change and wants to take action locally to combat it.

I am calling for this briefing to be shown across the UK so everyone has the opportunity to see it.

Chepstow Banking Hub is the 250th Banking Hub to open across the UK! 🏦

I promised to work to get more Banking Hubs across Monmouthshire, so following the opening of Monmouth’s Hub last year, I’m really pleased to see Chepstow’s open too.

The UK Labour Government pledged to open 350 Banking Hubs across the country, so we’re already well ahead of the target!

But why do we need Banking Hubs?

As traditional bank branches close and more people use online banking, some people risk being left behind.

Banking Hubs provide a place where people can still access everyday banking services and face-to-face support.

A big thank you to Lucy Rigby MP (@rigby.lucy), Economic Secretary to the Treasury, for joining us to celebrate! 👏 taken in Chepstow by @catherine.fookes

MAGOR STATION UPDATE: Welsh Government FINALLY confirms Magor and Undy Station WILL go ahead. 🚉

The Plaid Welsh Government has today confirmed it will prioritise the development of Magor and Undy Station.

This is promising news following pressure from me, Monmouthshire County Council and Lynne Neagle MS to make sure the £445 million investment from the UK Labour Government is used to deliver Magor station without delay.

Local councillors and campaigners, particularly the brilliant MAGOR group, have worked incredibly hard for years to make this a reality.

While this is a step forward, it is disappointing that it has taken Plaid five months to say they will set up a board.

I’m asking today who is on the board, when will it be up and running, and when will we see spades in the ground so Magor & Undy can benefit from this station? taken in Monmouthshire by @catherine.fookes

I’ve always loved Grosmont - it’s a beautiful village with an incredible community spirit.

So I was pleased to visit to discuss the future of the village shop and lend my support to the new venue, as well as to the work of the community in getting the old shop back up and running.

I was also so excited to see inside the newly improved Town Hall, which will be opening very soon.

I last saw it when the works were about to start, when we celebrated the National Lottery funding, so it was amazing to see how it has been transformed.

Congratulations to everyone who has worked so hard to make it happen! 👏 taken in Monmouthshire by @catherine.fookes

RIVER TOUR: Here’s a snippet from my chat with Nicola Cutcher, co-founder of @friendsoftheriverwye 🐟

We discussed the need for a Water Protection Zone across the English and Welsh parts of the River Wye – something Friends of the River Wye are campaigning for and I’m calling for in Parliament.

A Water Protection Zone could allow additional measures to be introduced to better protect the river, alongside much stronger enforcement of the rules we already have.

Watch to find out more about what a Water Protection Zone could mean for the Wye below. taken in Monmouthshire by @catherine.fookes

Congratulations to Caldicot RFC on their 65th anniversary! 🏉

It was great to visit the club, see the facilities and hear about how well it’s thriving, with teams across all age groups and a huge number of volunteer coaches.

I’m supporting the club with its application to the Welsh Rugby Union for funding to improve its facilities, creating a space where parents, carers and members of the community can stay, socialise and get involved.

The improved facilities could also be used at other times by community groups and local businesses.

A huge well done to everyone at Caldicot RFC for everything you do for the local community! 👏

Good to bring together Skenfrith residents, Natural Resources Wales and Monmouthshire County Council once again to continue my mission to make Skenfrith safe from flooding.

One of the things I can do as an MP is bring all the relevant groups together so that we can make change happen.

I’ve been doing this every three months since July 2024 and will continue until we have the protection we need for this historic village.

These aren’t meetings for the sake of it. They result in clear actions that are leading to progress - such as securing pumps for houses - while also allowing residents to directly question agencies and share their thoughts and concerns.

Diolch to everyone for coming together and working to find solutions; I will continue doing everything I can to make sure everyone in Skenfrith gets the flood defences they need. taken in Skenfrith by @catherine.fookes
