This Monster of Mine by Shalini Abeysekara is an absolutely STUNNING dark, twisted tale of a woman seeking vengeance… only to find out the monster she’s hated for four years isn’t the biggest devil in her world. With a brutal prologue, Abeysekara sets the dark tone of the entire book. While there are moments of levity, dark humor and even some tenderness and a little spice, the overall tone of the book matches Serai and Kadra’s willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve justice, even if that means going outside the law. This does mean that checking your trigger warnings is advisable. This book won’t be for everyone, but I’ll be honest it was PERFECT for me. Serai is a main female character who embraces her darkness, and uses it for good (and a touch of violence teehee), and I will admit to more than once having to quiet and hold in rage like Serai does in the start of this book. This Fairyloot edition is absolutely GORGEOUS, and I think matches the story extremely well. I am so excited to see that there will be another book in this world coming out, and @fairyloot please do a matching special edition!! I need more Serai and Kadra art!

Went to my first ever MCM Comic-Con London today, and there were so many cool products (plus some very dedicated, detailed cosplayers!) I knew going in I wanted to support @rorobun_ because @oreo.boyboy is one of the fluffiest, cutest dachshunds I’ve ever seen, and now I can bring a bag with me reminding me to get a treat every time I go to the grocery store😂😊 the sweatshirt is from @leikya and there were so many other designs I loved, but I can attest this sweatshirt is VERY high quality and so warm and comfy!! The small stickers are from @crafteaart and are beautifully foiled, while the pins are from @foxleapstudio ! Definitely worth checking out both businesses! I unfortunately don’t remember where the bookmarks came from, but I WILL be using them for my upcoming reads!

Call Down the Dragon released today and is absolutely PHENOMENAL! So of course I had to do a reel with books that remind me of the song with female characters out for revenge, justice, or just control over their own fate. Lilith Max is an artist I now listen to on repeat.

March reading wrap up!

I can’t stop staring at this gorgeous @illumicrate 10th Anniversary edition of The Arc of Scythe series by Neal Shusterman!! These are spectacularly detailed, extremely well executed and definitely make me want to do a re-read! My personal favorite is The Toll, though the depth of the reds and oranges on Scythe’s sprayed edges are incredible. Henriette Renié’s Pièce Symphonique seemed the perfect partner to this set as it starts with a funeral march and tells the journey of grief, beginning with despair, anger, sadness and ending with acceptance. This particular passage involves the steady march of the reaper in the bass along with a delicate melody floating above it.

Today was one of the best Valentine’s Days I’ve had in quite awhile, certainly better than the last one with a partner. This is because I actually did what I wanted to do. I did something musical, something with close friends, and spent hours alone in a massive Waterstones picking out these five incredible books that I’m so excited to read!

Books are:
The Morrigan by Kim Curran - read this is an eARC from NetGalley and ABSOLUTELY loved it. I cannot recommend this book enough!!
The Baby Dragon Cafe by A. T. Queshi - a cozy romance featuring baby dragons… tell me what’s not to like?
All Better Now by Neal Shusterman - the newest sci-fi book from an absolute master. I am SO excited to read this!!
Not in Love and Deep End (aka Whet) by Ali Hazelwood - I am on a quest to read all of her books… I could not pass on this opportunity!

Just finished @fairyloot edition of Heavenly Bodies by Imani Erriu… and I did very nearly throw this book across the room at the end after yelling at the characters for the last seven chapters so of course it gets a 4.75 stars from me.

I knew I would fall in love with this book when I started reading what ideas each Star (an immortal god) represented, things like justice, love and lies were grouped together, giving each Star positive and negative elements demonstrating that no one is perfect. Not even gods.

Elara and Enzo’s powerful love rose off the page in beautiful spicy smutty goodness. I’m someone who loves a good worship romance… so this was especially fun for me to read. The side characters were equally wonderful and fully fleshed out!

Overall… my one comment is that Elara made a very foolish decision at the end at the twist… and made it a reverse of the typical “villain has hero tied up but takes his or her time explaining their reasoning only for the hero to escape” situation and they definitely could’ve avoided it. Oh well… now I’m hooked waiting for November for the second installment!

Haven’t posted on here in awhile but am going to try to change that! The Morrigan comes out February 6 and is a folklore retelling absolutely worth reading. Especially recommend for fans of Circe by Madeline Miller!

Got my first tattoo on Friday and I absolutely LOVE it! @inkbyroxy did an incredible job bringing these dragons to life, and the lovely artists @velvetundergroundtattoo made the whole experience really positive and not nerve wracking at all!

The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore was a good, light romance! The cozy setting made up for the frustration of the near constant miscommunication, and the two main characters, Hazel and Noah, were absolutely adorable together. Hazel is a bookstore manager turning 30 and wanting some fun before her birthday, Noah is a relatively newcomer to the town of Dream Harbor and is known as a bit of a player. Together, they realize they can both have some spicy fun and fall in love. It’s a very good palate cleanser between higher stakes books, and while it is related to the Pumpkin Spice Cafe, you do not need to have read that to read this. I certainly didn’t, and I still understood the world. Overall, this is a three star book. It’s great for the Autumn season, but not a book that makes me want to read about other couples within the same world.

I finished this book mere MINUTES ago and I NEED the sequel! This was an outstanding read for me, the characters were fleshed out, the plot was engaging and fast paced, the romance was sweet, we have a pet dog, we have an appreciation for love of all kinds, familial, faith, friends and lovers and most importantly… self-love and finding yourself worthy no matter what lies others tell. There is a twist at the end which I NEED to discuss with someone… so please someone tell me they’ve read this and loved it as much as I did! The Fairyloot bonus chapter from Blue (the dog’s) perspective lit my heart on fire it was so stinking CUTE!
