We got to @syracuseairport early that way we would have time to make sure we were checked-in & had some time to walk around to stretch our legs during our last flight ✈️

I was pleasantly surprised to see the Syracuse Regional Aviation Museum which I had never seen before. As someone who appreciates history- it was a very interesting space to wander while waiting for our flight.

If you’re flying in or out of Syracuse- I recommend taking a walk through the museum if you have the time. taken in Syracuse Hancock International Airport by @cathrinewith1e

TW: Sexual Assault

I at one point in my life loved being a resident assistant. I loved being with other students. I loved helping them learn, grow & feel safe on campus.

After being assaulted by someone in the residential life program- I had to leave a part of the university that I had always wanted to be a part of.

The thing that breaks my heart the most was I tried my best to be the best RA I could be when I was one. I tried my best to help other students. I grew so much as a person.

Residential life didn’t acknowledge many of the SAs that occurred. They didn’t care as long as the students were paying their tuition. That was the first thing they checked often was if that student that reported something was paying their tuition.

We had to wear polos that we were supposed to be proud of by being a student & working for the university at the same time. I look back at pictures of me in those polos with such different eyes. Each color I wore was a different year of things I wish I never put that polo on for.

I’ve been keeping an eye on this dandelion for a while now. I thought many a time about plucking it & making a wish. TW: Sexual Assault

Smiling feels different after you’ve been assaulted. Smiling is a standard set by society. You start noticing the difference between a genuine smile & all the times you were forced to. I have been looking back at so many of my pictures from college & I can see it. I can see when I lost my smile I had before. It’s clear as day now to me. I don’t need to have that smile back. I’m working on finding my new one. It’s just the fact that even people who noticed when my smile changed never asked why.

If you’re outraged & disgusted by the media coverage of what happened at Cornell while not reflecting on your own college experience & classmates then you are really not understanding this case or conversation.

Sexual assault happens. People just don’t want to have conversations about stopping it & acknowledging its reality. by @cathrinewith1e

TW: Sexual Assault

If you are not outraged by what happened at Cornell & what has happened on every college campus since their inception then you aren’t paying attention.

I was sexually assaulted my sophomore year of college. I reported it. I spoke to all the designated “right” paths of reporting. It ended with me having lunch with one of the vice presidents of the university who just wanted to remind me why I loved the school (which I did at one time) & that there were “more important things than pursuing whatever may have happened”.

I know of at least 3 other sexual assaults that were directly reported to me while I worked on campus that were abruptly hidden by campus safety & security.

These aren’t lies. This isn’t a game to mess with young boys futures. What is being talked about now is the lack of accountability & the lessons of how to actually help boys grow into the men this society could really use to keep everyone safe.

Sexual assault is real. People who try & hide that fact are cowards. Many “men” who call themselves “men” should be very aware of what they’ve supported & hidden. Actually be better men. by @cathrinewith1e

I’ve been really in a slump lately with going on walks because I haven’t been feeling the best. I was able to go on an evening walk tonight. Perfect temperature & appreciating the crickets 🌕🦗 taken in Syracuse, New York by @cathrinewith1e

On days I’m not feeling my best physically lately- which always also impacts my mental & emotional health- I like to revisit days or moments that made me happy or brought me peace.

I take a lot of pictures & videos which some people appreciate when I’m with them & some see it as me not being present.

On days that it’s hard to get out of bed- I like to look through my photos to remind me of moments I can look forward to one day that haven’t even happened yet.

I’ll see the ducks on a lake. I’ll go on a walk with a friend. I’ll go on an adventure & walk around somewhere I’ve never been before. I’ll make new friends. I’ll keep the old. Just like memories- some are silver & some are gold 🤍 taken in Green Lakes State Park by @cathrinewith1e

We’ve developed a world where it is only comfortable to talk about being assaulted as perceived as drawing attention. People in your life have been assaulted.

People don’t come forward to even their friends & family because they know they won’t be believed or it will just be brushed off. Sexual abuse & assault are very real.
