Here’s Part 2 of my introductory carousel series: ‘What I Do’.

My work brings together the two threads that are most important to me: painting and teaching. As an artist, I create original oil paintings inspired by the landscapes of South Devon, exploring the quiet connection between nature and our sense of balance. Alongside this, I run a programme of art workshops and sessions designed to make creativity accessible, enjoyable, and part of everyday life.

Whether I’m in the studio, walking the coast path, or teaching in a classroom, my aim is the same, to encourage people to slow down, notice the world around them, and find calm through art and nature.

This week I will be mostly painting. After what felt like a speedy start on this commission I’m now at the stage of working in detail and progress has slowed. So, although the sea is not finished, I’m taking a break from painting teeny tiny waves to focus on Thatcher’s rock, and it’s giving me the boost that I needed 😅

Yesterday’s Watercolour Pen & Wash workshop @cockingtoncourt . What a wonderful bunch of people, so upbeat, friendly and supportive of each other. I love how art classes attract the loveliest people.

I came across this beautiful bay whilst making the most of the fading autumn sunshine. It’s just begging to be painted!

This drop in the temperature has meant that I’m able to spend a nice long day painting - happy Cath ☺️. Don’t get me wrong, I love the sunshine, but once it gets past a certain temperature I’m restricted to only being able to paint for a few hours in the morning, before the paint start drying too quickly, and I’m an all or nothing type, so that’s just not my style!

Using the monochrome filter on my phone to help me achieve a more accurate tonal contrast. 🤓

You may have noticed that I’ve been a bit absent online (and probably in person 🤣) and that’s because I have been hiding away working on a commission. After a period of liaising, planning, sketching, drafting and working on the underpainting, today I have started introducing some colour and it’s starting to feel like it’s coming to life :)

I’ve got the very talented @louisdraws_ doing his year 10 work experience with me this week. Today we’re working on commissions and it’s really nice to have a bit of company on a studio day. Keep an eye on this one, he’s going to go far…………..
