The chicks are hens now but they are still her babes. Always wonder what they were talking about that day. Sapphire is still the top hen. The girls had a hard molt and still recovering this year. Don’t have the farm I’m after yet but if I sit still long enough, it’s a little sliver of one.
Must be doing something right anyway, a buck has been visiting the front garden this summer with glowing antlers in the rising sunshine 🤍 And the honey beees are packing their weight in pollen from the sunflowers every day.

Dachshunds are so ‘difficult’, ‘can’t train them’, they ‘ bark so much’ blah blah blah…False.

-Those are collective excuses and confirmation bias. Ask yourself; What are you projecting on your dog/s? And how those things are affecting where your dogs performance expectations are and your standards.

When a pup can swap from ‘go hound’ getting critters, to a quick ‘off’ and giving them a free ride if requested (even if the same thing they were just hunting).
And even better; decipher and make good life choices when unattended around ‘prey’ animals knowing when the hunt is appropriate or not-it’s a beautiful thing, but it all starts with you, the handler.

Biggest advice, always trust the dog to be a dog(good or bad behavior)-set the boundaries early and continue to. And even when ‘trained’, still expect/trust they will be a dog. Your job doesn’t stop.
Pick their jobs wisely as well, on topic, some it may be too high risk for teaching hunting critters. (If mine do, they live with multiple pet prey animals as a personal requirement-that solid decipher line and regular exposure to it)

The mouse picture: memory aging like fine wine…the whole barn staff got in on her hunt that day; lifting up stall mats, moving obstacles so she could do her work-even disappeared in the walls for a while and I heard each target found. I could only collect/access a small portion of her hunt but that chest puff 😆 she was a proud lady. (Barn hunt with over population of mice, *don’t build barns with open hollowed walls 🐀)

*This bug was a wonder dog, my soul dog, I’ve held off for a Long time sharing her and her abilities with the internet world. If you’d believe it, she was the best cattle/farm dog I’ve known. Detected/alerted migraines. Rode farm equipment, civilized in town, trailed and swam w/horses etc…Era of the flip phone, alas most images and experiences live in my memory with this one-
^She is the paws(standards) my Doberman must fill and is expected to rise to even though they have very different jobs. And of course, also expected to give a baby critter a ride from time to time(very good fill in momma hen🐥).

Home weld shop closed. Shipped out equipment (still have equip for emergency-only structural repair).

*Will consider a few custom sculptures this year if a shop space is available and the ‘Right’ project comes along.

Lessons from a Potato: this beauty grew in the dark with nothing but it’s desire to grow. No dirt to feed it, no light too energize it. No water. Just it’s potato self. And now deeply admired for its efforts and creation.

First time in a box, on a dolly and stomping on a tarp…hour session today.

not too bad for this 5/6mo little velociraptor. Not too bad at all 🥂 shop agility work day went well and better than expected- especially since it was zoomy time when it was time to start 😂🫶 love dobes. She used her big brain today 🥂
Not one to share much dog stuff on here/it’s not the bulk of my services/consult for free a lot 🫣 and I try to keep it rather private but pretty dang proud of her today! She’s got some lucky parents.

-Post up for ‘now’ (since puppy season spike is upon us) and though I do plenty of steps before this level here’s some easy ideas/activities to work with for object desensitizing, brain exercises, patience (for both of you), bravery/confidence and ads new commands layered with the baseline daily commands. Go slow, build it in parts, lots of positive rewards, ignore the oopses/redirect as needed-they are learning something new.

*Box: stand in the box to start so it won’t tip over scary like on first attempt to jump in and out./sit before asking for jumping out. ^Especially with the full/all gas breeds.

*dolly: nose teased her to follow it rolling/treat placing so wasn’t scary moving. Then to get on it held dolly with feet had her go between my legs front and rear directions and nose teasing till back feet were on. Then sit. Then I move away with maintaining her sit.
Dismount might need to hold dolly for first few-they like to kick off and it will go flying/scary, but try and do a slow dismount with nose teasing low or to the side to get front/back feet to move separately (1,2,3,4 step) for minimal movement of dolly. Repeat overtime (days) until can do without holding dolly. Can also put down wood scrap/towels as wheel chucks for next stage-I like my legs as a side buffer to start so they don’t have option to circle around and you still have both hands to nose tease and help get the last sticky foot off the ground to the dolly if needed.

(Won’t share specific commands, I tailor to what owners want/need/can be consistent with …you can make up whatever tf you want or use the common sit stay down etc, just be consistent and smart with it) taken in Oregon by @catrod_collections
