Lobsters are a common sight on our dives. Usually hidden away under large rocks or nestled deep in shipwrecks . Fun fact! Did you know lobsters pee out of their faces!! Absolutely true, they have small openings at the base of their second antenna just below their eyes called nephropores through which they urinate. Came across this small Goby sitting quietly on the seabed amongst the rocks and boulders on the reef at Babbacombe recently. First time I have photographed one. Lots of common prawn ( Palaemon serratus) around at Babbacombe currently. Tucked in small cracks and crevices you need to look closely with a torch. Also worth looking out for what else might be residing in the shadows in same spot as the prawns are often found sharing holes with lobster or conger where they can pick up leftovers at meal times. Lovely couple of dives yesterday at Babbacombe. Whilst Bristol was being rained on the weather here was perfect. Flat calm with a patchy 3-5m viz and 18 deg water temp. A gentle current as the tide withdrew meant you could just hover off the reef and Mother Nature would do the rest. Watching all the inhabitants go about their business whilst snapping away with the camera. The usual suspects…lobster, velvet swimming crab, squat lobster, conger, Tompot Blenny, wrasse, small bib etc… just perfect! Sea squirts are one of the stranger animals that we encounter regularly on our dives. Also known as ascidians or tunicates they have two siphons. One through which they inhale seawater and the other through which they exhale. Cracking day at Chesil yesterday with @andybeese74 and @gemmkemp and @ian7last from the @thebigscuba . Two lovely dives 55mins and 62 mins, 5-6m viz and a balmy 20 deg water temp. A couple of trips to the bin disposing of plastic from the beach along with lost fishing gear recovered from the seabed meant we could enjoy the marine environment and leave it in a better place than when we arrived. A quick bite to eat and a drink at @thefatbadger_weymouth and then the drive home.
