47 GOING ON 17…

Where do I even begin? A week ago, some very special people in my life that I left behind in Sydney, jumped on a plane to Melbourne to spend the weekend with me to celebrate my birthday.

To say I’m grateful is a massive understatement. I know how hard it is to step away from the daily grind - leaving kids, partners, work and all the usual responsibilities behind, for 72 hours where you can just escape and simply be. To laugh, eat, drink, play, switch off and not have a care in the world, surrounded by people who bring joy, make you feel completely at ease and share that glass-half-full attitude.

Fun was had. A weekend packed with good times, plenty of laughs and a much-needed recharge of the batteries. A tasty cocktail crawl down the Sandy Line, an epic dinner at Gimlet, a relaxing day at Peninsula Hot Springs, a glorious farm-to-table lunch and tasting at Polperro Winery, pool, darts and dancing until the early hours in the mancave, a yummy birthday brunch and, of course, a spot of shopping in Prahran with a cheeky pop-in to Revs.

Pretty much the perfect itinerary for kicking off my 48th trip around the sun. And I got to spend it with these legends. Thank you @emzies_43, @tanya.michel.5, @carlachoppy, @sepsi and @julesfay80 for making the trip and for giving us another weekend of memories to add to the vault.

And of course, this would not have been possible without the biggest legend in my life, @andyhoad, who held the fort. I owe you big time! 💖

Big love to everyone who reached out by phone, text, messages and gifts from near and far. Feeling very loved and like one very special Virgo indeed. ✨♍️

LIKE A FINE WINE… 🍷

It’s been almost a month since we celebrated your 48th birthday @andyhoad, but as we all know, life gets a bit busy!!

I’m not sure whether I should be calling you Benjamin Button, but somehow you just keep getting younger, fresher and better with age… despite the chaos of life, work and parenthood!

You’ve given us the opportunity to explore, enjoy and truly immerse ourselves somewhere new, and we’re absolutely loving it. We get to watch you grow from strength to strength in your professional life, while somehow still managing to give your whole self to our family and kids - making sure you’re present and supportive, as a father and a husband.

You work hard, love hard and somehow make it all look effortless - although we know it’s anything but!

So here’s to 48 years of you, and to everything still to come. May the years ahead bring more adventures, more laughs, more memories, plenty of good wine… and hopefully a little more time to sit back and enjoy it all!

LEVEL UP! LEVEL 10 UNLOCKED…

How on earth did we end up here?! Jimi turned 10 today. A massive milestone that seems to creep up on you… and boom, double digits!

Matey, what a year it has been. An interstate move, new friends, new soccer team, new house… and you have conquered it all like an absolute champ! The way you’ve embraced change has genuinely inspired us - it already feels like you’ve been here forever. We’ve always said you’re an old soul. You showed us just how resilient and adaptable you are. You made it feel easy, even when we know it wasn’t.

Jimi James Hoad. What can we say? You bring us SO MUCH JOY. You drive us nuts. You make us laugh… and cry. You test us. You impress us. You make us incredibly proud to be your parents.

Your laugh, smile and spirit is infectious. Keep lighting up the world with your magic. Here’s to the next decade and everything it holds for you my (not so) little legend! I love you so darn much! 💖

A month ago today, I flew back from my home away from home… London. Thanks to some incredible people in my life, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity became a reality.

I’m sharing this because that time away has had a profound impact on me. Some experiences don’t change who you are… they remind you of who you are, what you love, and what truly matters.

You know I’m all about embracing opportunities and living life. This was one of those defining moments - one that reflects who I am, how I want to live, and the positive influence I hope to have on my children.

Music is in my blood. It’s my sanctuary. Having grown up with musician parents, I immerse myself in its power to heal, celebrate, tell stories, and capture life’s moments. That foundation makes experiences like this feel transformative.

A thoughtful, humble, and talented human I met on the dance floor 3 years ago made it possible for me to attend @fredagainagainagainagainagain’s sold out final leg of his USB tour at @yourallypally. You know who you are and I am forever grateful.

Fred has done so much for the evolution of music - blending genres and creating new ones, collaborating across generations, understanding the power and importance of composition and storytelling, and creating a physical euphoric space filled with explosive energy that reconnects you to yourself and to others. Watching him do what he loves reminds me that he’s just a human, like the rest of us, who has simply found his purpose and invites us along for the ride.

One moment I’ll always cherish was when I recognised Fred playing the very first note of my all-time favorite song, Glow. It resonates so deeply, capturing the very essence of my spirit. I was right at the front, dancing, and yelled “Yes Fred, yes!” so loudly my voice nearly cracked. He heard me. He looked over, laughed, grabbed the mic and said, “This one’s for you.” I’ll never forget it.

I’ll also take this opportunity to tell you to keep a close eye on @joyanonymous… Hen and Lou are two special humans. What began as spreading joy along Southbank during Covid has grown into something powerful.

HELLO 2026.

3 months in and the cup is already overflowing!

We’ve been so lucky to have loads of friends and family come to visit over the summer holidays, filling our new home with plenty of laughter and memories. The sun is in full force as we explore Melbourne and its surrounds, finding new favourite hangs, enjoying the AO and its awesome atmosphere, witnessing the Southern Lights, climbing Hanging Rock and dancing the warm nights away as we slowly make this place feel even more like home.

GOODBYE 2025…

It’s taken me 3 months to finally sit down and reflect on our new chapter in Melbourne and everything this past 6 months has brought with it. To say we’ve been busy would be an understatement - but we couldn’t be more grateful.

@andyhoad has settled into his new role, and we are super proud of the kids. They’ve slipped into life here as though they’ve been here for years. We are all making new friends at every turn, including the neighbours. The streets are slowly starting to feel familiar. And our love for live music is still going strong. It sure has been an adventure so far!

A few scheduled trips back to Sydney towards the end of the year was an opportunity to catch up with family and friends, including taking the kids to their very first live gig - Oasis (Fun Fact: Lyla was named after the Oasis song), followed by AC/DC.

Unfortunately that time also brought tragedy and heartbreak, and the world of my Ukrainian Jewish Bondi community was turned upside down. But love prevails, and I’m so thankful to everyone who reached out and showed their support. It’s a long road ahead, but I know we’ll get there…

Spending Christmas and New Year together as a family, with Mum and Dad here, was incredibly healing. Moments like that remind us to keep making memories and to appreciate every second we have together.

So here’s to 2025… one of the biggest and most challenging years for the Hoadys thus far, but hard work pays off…

On 17th December 2019 at 7:25pm, Lyla Sophia Hoad burst into the world with a bang - and she hasn’t slowed down since! There is truly never a dull moment with this little firecracker…

Lyla has filled 2025 with so many incredible firsts: starting school, losing a tooth, writing a sentence, reading a book, boy crush, live concert, and showing such confidence and resilience during our move to Melbourne. She keeps us on our toes every single day, but she also makes us unbelievably proud.

Lyla is pure joy (and chaos!). Her smile warms our heart, and her energy and spirit are infectious. We admire who she already is and so excited for everything she will be in the future… a word of warning: don’t stand in her way!

As her parents, we promise to fill her childhood with wonderful memories, laughter, and experiences - to keep her safe, support her dreams, and make sure her world is always full of love, positivity and opportunity.

I treasure every night where I hear her say ‘I love you mumma’ as she cuddles my hand and falls asleep. Forever grateful for you my munchkin. 💖

17 YEARS GOING ON 6 WEEKS

Our 17 year wedding anniversary marks exactly 6 weeks since starting our new life in Melbourne. And what a whirlwind those 6 weeks has been for us as a couple and as a family.

We’re unpacked, we’re working hard, we’re settled and we’re making the most of it! New friends, new experiences and new places to get to know and explore makes us feel like we’re getting married all over again! 🤪🥰

CHAPTER 5: THE FOUR WALLS OF 16B

The time has come to say goodbye (for now) to our Little Bay home and our LaPa community. These walls have cradled us through 10 unforgettable years. I was four months pregnant with Jimi when we first moved in. My waters broke in the living room.

Our couch has witnessed countless conversations, laughs and tears with family and friends. The kitchen has nourished the people we hold dearest. The pool, our eternal saviour, has rescued us from many a cry of “I’m bored!” while becoming a hub of laughter and play, including most of Jimi and Lyla’s birthday parties. And the floors must be ready for a rest from the endless thumping of little feet and footballs!

We’ve welcomed so many of you into our home, and we know it holds a special place in your hearts, just as it does in ours. Now, it’s time for the disco ball to sparkle for another family (yes we’ve left it hanging 🪩), watching over them, and hopefully bringing them as much joy, laughter, and good times as it has given us.

This house isn’t just walls and rooms… it’s been a witness, a refuge, and a stage for a decade of living. Our first foundation of family life. But now, it’s time to make new memories within four new walls in Brighton, VIC. …and you @emzies_43 deserve a square on my grid! What a time, what an era, what a friendship. But I’m telling you, there’s SO much more to come my soul sista! It’s been 5 years but it’s only the beginning!

I leave with a heavy heart, knowing you are no longer around the corner. That we are no longer able to plan a spontaneous rendezvous. That we are unable to agree on going to a gig at the drop of a hat. And that we are not here for each other physically when one needs to console the other…

However I take comfort in knowing you are only a phone call away, and that we keep our promise to visit each other when we can. It’s the foundation of our friendship that will keep us together, always, no matter what.

CHAPTER 4: 6

This time last week, I was celebrating my 46th trip around the sun. This time next week, we’ll be halfway down the Hume Highway, kicking off our new life in Melbourne.

It’s incredible how much can change in just a year. I’m so grateful for the freedom to choose the direction I want to travel in life. Ahead lie new beginnings and adventures for our family - building on bonds, trust, resilience, adaptability, self-awareness, confidence, and open-mindedness.

Of course, farewells and change are also part of the journey. Saying goodbye hasn’t been easy… but it’s never really goodbye, only see you soon. And our nearest and dearest have gained something too - free accommodation and a personal host in Melbourne! In my eyes, that makes us all winners.

I want to thank you all for the birthday love and generosity over the past week. I have felt so incredibly spoilt. I cherish each and every one of you and can’t wait to welcome you into our new home. Here’s to filling our vault with even more memories filled with laughter, good times, and love. 💖🪩
