Second Story Presents...

DIY Design: Event Flyers 101
with Camille Bruya

A workshop to improve your visual identity through event flyer design, utilizing free and open-source materials.

Wedneesday, November 18
7-9pm at Second Story Studios
NE PDX! RSVP for address!
$60

...

About the workshop:

When it comes to promoting yourself and your music, you shouldn’t settle for run-of-the-mill visuals. But sometimes hiring a pro visual designer isn’t possible. That’s when the knowledge of design principles and their application can come in handy, and knowing where to find open-source assets to support your visual identity.

We’ll start the workshop learning the basics of design such as color, composition, typography, and where to access free-to-use content. Then using Canva’s free software, we’ll create a digital flyer together—Camille will provide sample information and materials to build out the design, or you’re welcome to create a flyer for your next event utilizing Camille’s provided assets. At the end of the workshop, you’ll receive dozens of free fonts, illustrations, and backgrounds, as well as links to download open-source materials for future designs.

It’s recommended that you bring a laptop, tablet, or smart phone to design with, as well as to create a free Canva account beforehand.

Photo and design for @kendalllujanmusic’s upcoming album My Heart Needs Love, available for preorder now!

Went analog for much of the project: shooting on my grandpa’s medium format Richoflex in my basement studio, hand-drawing the title type from a 1950s Speedball lettering booklet, and utilizing my inherited great-aunt’s sewing kit for the vinyl stickers (the perfect example of finding strength and resilience through fragility!). Not to mention we completed the design in 4 days 💁🏼‍♀️ Thank you Kendall for the trust 🤍

Can confirm that this album is so so good and y’all won’t want to miss out!

I’ve been *bad* at sharing things on here this summer. But I have so much I do want to share!!

I recently designed this fun 11x17 poster for @troutlakehall (thanks @kylejglenn for the opportunity!). We used the 4th anniversary gift of “fruit and flowers” in conjunction with imagery of native plants and Trout Lake’s history of fruit farming. It was too fun scouring vintage USDA artwork catalogs for this 🍒🍇🍎

happy summer! thanks for the support on the recent record cut featuring live recordings of @arunaquartet et al.
there are some exciting new things on the horizon including some music videos, and fingers crossed, an album. choosing tracks for an album is the biggest challenge atm, but traveling abroad will help that I think. u will be seeing highlights of that soon!! 😅
big love to @cbruyac for this lovely moving foto captured to film. taken in Portland, Oregon by @cbruyac
