Ameera made it to London!!! And last night our team attended the BAFTAs, nominated for our coverage of Gaza. Very emotional to finally meet in person a woman I’d spent more than two years speaking to almost every day, helping us report on one of the most devastating wars of our time, one that has upended so many lives, including her own. We didn’t bring home the award, but having Gaza recognised in that room, and getting to share that moment with Ameera and colleagues I admire deeply, felt meaningful in its own right.♥️ Keep talking about Gaza. The violence and suffering does not end when the cameras turn away. by @ccalkha
📣 Our programme 'Gaza: Fight for Survival' has been nominated for a @bafta! This recognition belongs to our extraordinary team in Gaza — reporting under unimaginable conditions to tell stories that must be seen, and heard. @zeinja 🔗 Full video linked in bio by @ccalkha

Al-Roj camp, northeast Syria January 26, 2026 This is where foreign women and children linked to ISIS have been held since the group lost most of its territory, near Syria’s border with Iraq. A temporary measure that hardened into a place people grow up inside. When we were here, there was tension around who would run the camp and what would happen to the people inside it. Control was shifting in the region, and the future of the detention sites felt unsettled. From a distance, the children here are spoken about in terms of future risk. On the ground, they live in the present. Some came close, then held back. Some played. Others watched. For many, this place is the only world they know. Some women spoke but asked not to be filmed. Others stayed away. Those who did speak talked about wanting out, about time that feels stuck. One woman from Turkey, brought here as a child, said, “I am scared I am going to die here.” A British woman I spoke to asked why families like hers are denied a second chance, and pointed to Syria’s current president, Ahmad al-Sharaa, who she said was given one himself. by @ccalkha
Al Mughayyir, oPt - September 3, 2025 Fatima and her mother-in-law, Fadda, live in a tent that clings to the hills; their third home in months. They say settlers, even children with rifles, come down to harass them while soldiers watch. Each morning, they brew sage tea and begin again. by @ccalkha
Khirbet Abu Falah, oPt - October 25, 2025 Nayef Shoman, 76-year-old father of eight, says the olive trees he tends date back to the Ottoman period. by @ccalkha
Ramallah - October 13, 2025 Abeer Abu Rub in tears after learning her brother was not on the bus carrying released prisoners in the last exchange after the ceasefire in Gaza. The night before, security forces had told her family he would be freed, and warned them not to celebrate. Their mother came in a wheelchair to greet a son who never arrived, sent instead to Gaza, and then beyond. A relative called it “psychological terror…playing with our emotions, and those of the prisoners.” by @ccalkha
Ramallah, October 13, 2025. Aman Nafa speaks with her husband, Nael Barghouti, during the last prisoner exchange following the ceasefire in Gaza. Around her, families waited for loved ones to return, some learning at the last moment that their sons or brothers had been deported instead of released. Once a prisoner herself, Aman carries the calm of someone who has survived the long road. Among Palestinians she is known for her composure, her warmth, and the smile she never seems to lose. Barghouti, the longest-serving Palestinian prisoner, often called Ameed al-Asra, or the dean, for his forty-five years behind bars, spent most of his life in Israeli prisons. He was freed on February 27 in the second prisoner exchange since October 7, deported, and now lives in Turkey. Aman is not permitted to visit him, but they speak every day. I met her that day in Ramallah. After we spoke, she called him so we could hear his voice. It came through faint but steady: “Palestine is finally being seen,” he said. “But if rights don’t come, another war will.” by @ccalkha

Thursday/ 24 July 2025 A one-year-old whimpers from hunger. A 12-year-old, wasted from malnutrition, asks simply to be treated like a child. A doctor holds a starving baby, knowing the formula he needs is just beyond the border….blocked. This is not a natural disaster. It is deliberate. @jrsparks99 @andrewiconnell @ameera.harouda by @ccalkha
