weekly recap 14: this week was full of beginning of spring sweetness. touching early flowers in bloom at the rodin museum, celebrating poisson d’avril (april fools) with pranks at line dancing and nannying, eating as many pastries as possible with a great friend, listening to vivaldi surrounded by stained glass windows, watching that golden haze at sunset that only summer sun can bring, observing swing dancing on the seine, and being incredibly moved by all the art I saw. as always this time of year reminds me that I am constantly blooming and thank goodness for that. taken in Paris, France by @cchatinover

weekly recap 13: my therapist said I was in need of tender love and being held by your best friend and her wife for a week was exactly what she meant. between seeing exhibits, drinking champagne, eating vegan pastries, watching a crazy horse show and snacking on bread&butter at the effiel tower, there was so much laughter, crying and tenderness.

I get emotional thinking about my younger self and this friendship was such a big part of who I was. to have a friend stay in your life with all its ebbs and flows and then get to experience paris together is nothing short of a miracle. the chance to reminisce and also build all these new experiences together is something I will never take for granted.

this week reminded me who I am, how tenderly i’m loved and that I can return that to others. taken in Paris, France by @cchatinover

weekly recap 12: I turned 31!!! in paris!!! I watched the sunset on the parisian landscape, cried in the jardin de luxembourg, journaled in montmartre, and danced on the seine river boat. i’m incredibly thankful for the grounding energy of my oldest friends and the invigorating energy of new friends who showed me that community is always there if you look. most of all, i’m so proud of myself for making this move because I can already feel how much this adventure has changed me. taken in Paris, France by @cchatinover

weekly recap 10: this past week held more beauty, color, and incredible food than I thought possible. traveling through India with close friends is something I know I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

we began in Kerala, wandering through fishing stalls, looking at the evocative works of the Biennale, eating seafood layered with spices. at night we watched Kathakali with its painted faces and precise gestures telling ancient stories.

in Kumarakom, the light softened. on a quiet houseboat we woke to birds and pink lotus flowers floating across still water. we played cards as the sun set and watched as the sky became a rainbow gradient.

then Agra, where we arrived amongst clouds of bright powder filling the air in the middle of Holi. during our history tour of Agra Fort, it was impossible not to be distracted by the joy unfolding in the streets. the next morning we woke before sunrise to see the Taj Mahal. the first orange light illuminating the delicate inlays of flowers and verses from the Quran.

in Ranthambore, we embarked on a safari and our spectacular guide spoke about the stories of the forest and the tigers.

Jaipur followed, and it was an explosion of energy, colors, noise and movement. from the City Palace to the bazaar, I moved through pink archways, silk goods, and busy roadways.

behind all of this beauty were emotions I still struggle to put into words. guilt at traveling while conflict exists so close by. anger at the role my own country continues to play in atrocities abroad. awareness of the impact that colonialism has cast, and of the complicated reality that even traveling myself can contribute to harm, ecologically and culturally.

and yet there was also immense gratitude. for my friend who planned this entire journey and shared so much knowledge with us. and for the generations of artists, cooks, dancers, musicians, and storytellers who have protected their culture and continue to keep it alive.

I know words can’t fully hold an experience like this. hopefully the photos help carry the parts that language cannot. taken in India : इंडिया by @cchatinover

weekly recap 8: when I moved to paris, I was worried I wouldn’t grow in the ways I wanted to. and a good friend told me “you won’t realize how much you are changing while you are there. you need to look back and see.” however, this week gave me a mirror to take stock and wow do I feel how all the small baby steps that I’ve taken have lead to huge shifts in who I am becoming taken in Paris, France by @cchatinover
