I never planned on becoming a photographer.

I just kept saying YES to opportunities, betting on myself, and figuring things out along the way. YouTube, asking questions, and a whole lot of trial and error (you can ask @mamahoodphoto. She was my test subject every day before and after she got home from work. Sorry love)

Eventually, the photography work I was doing before and after my 9–5 started bringing in more money than my actual job. That’s when I realized this could become something bigger.

Biggest lesson? KEEP BETTING ON YOURSELF AND DON’T GIVE UP!

Try new things. Keep learning. There will always be challenges, but you’ve got to keep pushing.

It’s crazy how one small decision can completely change your life.

Right before I turned 30, I was going through a lot of changes in my life. I picked up a camera just to keep myself busy and give me something to focus on.

What I didn’t expect was to find something I was actually good at.

For someone who had never really felt like they were particularly good at anything, that feeling meant a lot. It gave me confidence, energized me, and made me want to keep learning.

So I did. YouTube became my classroom, and I taught myself everything I could about photography.

Looking back, I had no idea that something I started just to occupy my time would eventually change the direction of my entire life.

Sometimes you don’t know what you’re capable of until you try something new.

Before I ever picked up a camera, I spent 13 years working with kids and families. And I wouldn’t trade those years for anything.

From Arizona’s Children Association to @soazbigs , and even earning my degree in Family Studies and Human Development at the @uarizona (Bear Down), I learned so much about people.

How to listen. How to communicate. How to build relationships. And most importantly, how to connect with people from all walks of life.

Funny enough, those are some of the most important skills I use today running my photography and video production business.

Turns out, some of the best business lessons I ever learned had absolutely nothing to do with business.

A little BTS from a recent corporate interview shoot at the @jwstarrpass .

10 interviews over 2 days, all filmed in a hallway outside the conference rooms. Definitely not the easiest location, but we were able to make the most of the space and create a setup that worked really well.

I thought audio was going to be our biggest challenge, but it cleaned up surprisingly well. We used my trusty @audiotechnicausa shotgun mics, with the @canonusa C80 as our A Cam and C50 as our B Cam.

For lighting, we used three @amarancreators Ray 660Cs, which gave us plenty of control to light our subjects while still bringing some nice color into the windows in the wider shot.

The best part is being able to pull off a setup like this with just a two-person crew. Huge thanks to @_reymar_reyes_ for running the interviews while I was covering photography throughout the conference.

Sometimes you just have to work with the space you’re given and make it happen.

Tucson is showing off right now.

This year’s monsoons have been so good to the desert, and after Monday’s rain, everything came alive all over again. Mount Lemmon is about as green as I’ve seen it.

This is one of my favorite times of year in Tucson. The desert definitely isn’t always brown.

I just finished Awaken the Giant Within by @tonyrobbins , and one thing he talks about throughout the book really stuck with me: the power our thoughts, words, and beliefs have on our lives.

Do you believe that when you speak positively, think positively, and genuinely believe good things are coming, you start to attract more positivity into your life?

Maybe it’s mindset. Maybe it’s perspective. Maybe you just start noticing more of the good that was already there.

Whatever it is, I’m a believer.
