It’s HERE!!! Today is the day my book Growing Together hits the shelves! Thank you to everyone who preordered early and to all who have been by my side in support of this vision every step of the way.

This book is not just mine—it’s a reflection of all the wisdom, support, and love that we all share as we grow together through the experiences of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.

It’s a vulnerable feeling to put so much of my own story out into the world but I know that it’s the sharing of ourselves that brings us together, more connected to our truth, to each other and our purpose here on earth! I hope Growing Together does just that for mothers as they bring forth life and give birth to a new part of themselves.

Endlessly greatful for the incredible team at @chroniclebooks . I couldn’t love you all more. Thank you for your trust in me.

Only a handful of people have gotten a sneak peak at the manuscript of my upcoming book and the feedback has me in tears.

These six humans are not just some of the most iconic game changers but personal role models who have shaped my path with their purpose as mothers, authors, business women and birth workers. Having their endorsements is such a pinch-me moment.

@phabulouscare - The home and hospital birth OB who I wish every single woman in the world could work with. If only we could just clone her. She holds the deepest reverence for women, birth, babies and choice.

@drjoelgator - One of the few pediatricians who isn’t afraid to go against the mainstream medical paradigm to speak the truth and approach children’s health holistically. A best-selling author who is bringing so much healing and wisdom to the world.

@gigihadid - The classmate I envied in highschool because, yes she’s actually as kind, cool, strong, smart, funny and good at volleyball as she is beautiful! A tremendous honor to witness her dedication to setting herself up for an empowered home birth and inspiring so many others to do the same as a result.

@_hengou - Author of The First 40 Days, which has become THE Bible for postpartum care. She is the leading voice in
shifting the paradigm in how we approach postpartum. Her book was my husband’s favorite resource for preparing for parenthood.

@ericachidi - Founder of Loom, Best-Selling Author and boss babe who’s dedication to women’s health has been a profoundly transformative contribution to the world. She’s been one of my greatest teachers on this path.

@rickilake - Easily one of the most influential figures of our lifetime in helping to improve maternal health in the US thanks to her and @abbyepsteinxoxo film, The Business of Being Born. The film that rocked my world and set my heart in motion. Pregnancy book by @ccmeyer

Share your big baby birth story here 👇🏽

As a mama who expirenced a shoulder dystocia with the birth of my son (who was not a textbook “big baby”), I’m so grateful that my midwife had the necessary skills to resolve it quickly and gently. I also believe that the physiological nature of my labor and my freedom of movement allowed for me to be in an optimal position to support the process.

While back home in Malibu, my dear friend Carmen @dreamdoulavillage facilitated a Closing Of The Bones for me.

For those unfamiliar with this practice, Closing of the Bones is a postpartum ritual with roots in traditions found throughout parts of Latin America.

It incorporates the rebozo, a traditional woven shawl that has long been a companion to Mexican midwives who use it in many different ways to support women through pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.

I had the privilege of learning this art form from an incredible midwife @parteramiriamavalonceremonias , who lives in Puerto Vallarta and travels the world sharing this wisdom with doulas so that these practices can reach and support mothers globally.

There is something so powerful about being wrapped and held after birth. Pregnancy and birth ask the body and the self to expand and open in every possible way. Closing offers a moment of containment, integration, rest, and acknowledgment of the transition that has taken place.

The rhythmic wrapping and compression is not just deeply relaxing but also supportive for muscles and joints, while helping the body release held tension. The experience goes beyond the physical and can be a deeply emotional symbolic ritual. It’s a way of honoring and integrating while marking the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another.

Fortunately, both of my postpartum experiences have been harmonious, but even still, I felt a night-and-day difference after my closing with Carmen, both physically and emotionally. I felt stronger and more stable in my body. My digestion improved. My whole system felt calmer and more settled as I myself was held and swaddled like a baby.

Thank you, Carmen. The way you doula this doula is so generous, loving, and inspiring. I can’t wait for the women in the mentorship to have the opportunity to learn from you and Miriam. by @ccmeyer

If only I could bottle this feeling up forever. The sweet smell of baby breath, the rise and fall of his chest on mine, the smile on his face when he wakes.

Everyone talks about how hard motherhood is but no one talks about the grief of knowing that these moments are so fleeting and temporary.

There’s something about the second child that shows you the passing of time in a whole new light.

Early in my postpartum window I went to get bodywork from a gifted womb practitioner named Naema . I got really emotional about all of this and couldn’t find the words to explain why I was crying. She said something I’ll never forget… “It’s overwhelming to be intimate with the preciousness of your life”. She nailed what the English language doesn’t have a word for, but should.

Anyway, Shanna Tova for those who celebrate today as a start of a new year a season for reflection, gratitude and repair. May we all savor the sweetness of our lives! by @ccmeyer

#383 | A Second Home Birth: Vocalizing, Instinct & Skilled Support with Carson Meyer 🎙️

Birth doula and mother of two Carson Meyer joins us to share the story of her second home birth and the very different emotions that came with approaching birth after such a positive first experience.
Carson talks about the anxiety she carried in the final weeks of pregnancy, the problem with predicting when labor will begin, and her persistent worry that her midwife might not make it to the birth. We also discuss what it means to feel safe enough to be completely uninhibited in labor, why some women are quiet while others are intensely vocal, and the connection between the jaw, throat, pelvic floor, and the sounds women instinctively make in birth.
Carson shares how she prepared her young daughter to be present during labor, what happened when things suddenly began moving much faster than expected, and why her concerns about having her midwife there ultimately proved significant.
This is a conversation about trusting birth without pretending it never requires help and about the difference a calm, skilled provider can make when it does.

I recently came across this photo from my early years as a doula! This mama and her boys hold a special place in my heart. I had the privilege of attending both of her births; a courageous 40-hour home birth turned hospital transfer and an epic VBAC years later.

As a young doula without children myself, I was often asked if it felt strange to support birth without personal experience of giving birth, of being a mother myself. Although I had imposter syndrome at times, my answer was always clear.

Holding space doesn’t require personal experience of birth because no two births, no two mothers, and no two babies are ever the same. Each path unfolds with its own unique sensations and needs. Each woman, each experience deserving of being met with a beginner’s mind.

Head over to my Substack to read more about the benefits of being a doula before having children yourself. I also share my tips for finding more grace and ease while balancing both the devotion of birth work and showing up for your own motherhood journey.

If you’re feeling the heart pull to become a doula, or you’re already a doula who is looking for community, mentorship, and more tools to bring to your work, click the link in bio to join the mentorship circle! by @ccmeyer

They say “never meet your idols,” unless your idol is Dolly Parton, in which case she will far exceed any and all expectations you might have.

My friend Sandy introduced me to Dolly when I was living in Nashville for the summer in 2014. Sandy was Dolly’s long-time manager and GBF. He told her I was her BIGGEST fan, and she called me up and invited me to get lunch while I was in her town, because…southern hospitality.

She took me to a hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant. We talked about her spiritual practice, writing music in prayer before the sunrise in the cabin she grew up in. She told me that she has warehouses full of the handmade gifts and letters fans had sent her over the years. She couldn’t bring herself to throw anything handmade away. It was clear she never took a single second of her stardom for granted.

Dolly was not just the talent every artist hopes to be; she is the kind of person we should all strive to be more like.
She lived her life close to God, and it is clear by how she reaches all of our hearts that she is channeling something greater than herself.

I like to think she is smiling big reunited with her beloved parents, her soulmate Carl Dean, and our sweet Sandy, sitting on the front porch of heaven in rhinestone angel wings.
