Age of Audio is a new documentary film on the meteoric rise of the audio medium that has come to shape our era, on September 23. Director Shaun Michael Colón will be on hand for a post-screening panel discussion, along with journalist and podcaster CC Paschal and filmmaker and editor Amy Grumbling. The event is co-presented by SPACE and The Salt Institute for Documentary Studies at MECA&D.

𝘼𝙜𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙤 follows indie podcaster Ronald Young Jr. as he navigates the evolution of podcasting, where DIY ethos meets billion-dollar buyouts. Featuring icons like Ira Glass, Marc Maron, and Kevin Smith, the film chronicles, the history, growth, and cultural impact of the medium while spotlighting the independent creators who shaped it.

Zora once famously told us that "there are years that ask questions and years that answer". 2026 is definitely feeling like a year of big personal questions for me about the best ways to offer my gifts and service to a world that is getting harder to exist in as a Black queer femme living with disabilities.

So far this year, maybe the win was just surviving enough to remember that I actually do believe a better, freer world could exist. And I want to continue to make beautiful and moving work that reflects and grapples with what true liberation for all would actually take.

Zora stays in the conversation, but this is the first time I've seen and heard her #inherownwords.

What an incredible gift of archive by her estate. This was at once playful, serious, full of love and yearning and intimate aspects of Hurston's creative process.

Kicking 2026 off with housing at the end of a long, dark quest for basic survival.

I haven't been able to work since mid 2024.

I learned hard lessons about help that hurt.

I was advised by social workers, family and friends to go to homeless shelters since no next of kin could take me in. I wrestled with the risks and chose instead to collaborate with close community to create alternative options.

Along the way many portals opened to connect with so many people that I love and care about. It reshaped the relationships that withstood the turbulence for the better.

I am sharing this to destigmatize the reality of being unhoused. In my own family history, it seems to be an echoed destiny. A poor inheritance. Generations begat generations that struggled to feel safe. To be safe.

So in 2026 I turn my attention to the work of embodied safety and security. What is peace to the body that is in perpetual fight, flight or functional freeze?

For me it is looking like exchanging control with curiosity, breathing deep and slow, accepting the brutality of reality with grace and mending my broken bits with gold.

🎧 On the newest episode of “Voices + Visions: The Podcast,” we focus on featuring our 2022 Mentorship Artist-in-Residence, CC Paschal.

Voices + Visions is an artist talk series featuring Indigo Arts Alliance’s alumni artists in residence, highlighting their creative intersections, distinct voices and their residency experience.

An experimental documentarian and multidisciplinary artist, Pascal dedicated her time at IAA to working on the development of a narrative podcast series, blending speculative fiction with facts. Paschal also explored work around the Abyssinian Church in Portland, ME, and the intersections between coiled hair and sound waves.
