Nearly $480 MILLION. That’s how much Los Angeles has paid since 2019 to resolve lawsuits and legal claims involving the LAPD, according to a recent @latimes investigation.

Every dollar spent settling these claims is money we can’t invest in repairing streetlights, fixing sidewalks, trimming trees, and delivering the basic City services our communities rely on every day.

That’s why we’re working to expand unarmed crisis response and establish a Department of Community Safety. We need to build a public safety ecosystem that actually meets the needs of Angelenos, prevents harm, and makes responsible use of taxpayer dollars. by @cd1losangeles

Happy Filipino American History Month! 🇵🇭

Today, @cd14losangeles led a presentation in Council Chambers celebrating the history, culture, and contributions of Filipino Americans to our city. We loved seeing super volunteer Fzyon up there being recognized!

We also took the opportunity to shout out @kuyas.co in Highland Park, where owners Sian and Arnold are bringing Filipino flavors to CD1. And trust us, their breakfast burritos and lattes are BOMB. 🔥

From small businesses and community organizing to arts and culture, Filipino Americans have helped shape the history and identity of Los Angeles. We’re proud to celebrate those contributions and remain committed to uplifting the people, businesses, and cultural spaces keeping that legacy alive for generations to come. ❤️ by @cd1losangeles

This morning, we joined @cw_heather.hutt, the Domestic Violence Alliance, and @lacitycid for Domestic Violence Awareness Month to talk about what it actually takes to support survivors and build a public safety system that protects people from harm.

Housing is public safety. Economic independence is public safety. And everyone deserves the resources and support to live free from violence.

Thank you to all our partners and advocates who organized today’s event and continue showing up for survivors every day. 💜 taken in Los Angeles City Hall by @cd1losangeles

In January 2025, Mijente Support Committee and @cd1losangeles launched the Community Defense Program with a simple but critical mission: keep families together and defend the dignity and humanity of every member of our community, especially as immigration enforcement intensifies.

Today, 650+ trained neighbors across the district are looking out for each other and connecting families to resources. Watch the video to see how it works. 👆🏽

Ready to join the Community Defense Program?! Start by coming to our No Tech for ICE Asamblea.
 📅 Saturday, Oct 24 | 9am-1pm
 📍 RSVP for location: bit.ly/NTFI-LosAngeles

ICE is using AI and surveillance tech to target our communities.

Mijente just dropped a report exposing how Big Tech is fueling the deportation system. At the Asamblea we’ll break down the findings and map out how we protect our neighbors together. 💪🏽

Over the weekend, we joined @wonkokla in celebrating 50 years in business and present a plaque recognizing this milestone in Chinatown!

Legacy businesses like Won Kok are part of the fabric of our neighborhoods, preserving culture, bringing generations of families together, and contributing to our local economy. As our communities continue to grow and change, we must continue supporting the businesses that have helped shape them for decades.

Congratulations to business owner Alvin Hom on this milestone, and thank you to Wayland Tam and @eastwindliondancetroupe for their continued work preserving Chinatown’s cultural heritage and investing in the next generation.

Could your street be affected? Check before you park tomorrow.

Red Flag Parking Restrictions begin Thursday, October 15 at 6:00 AM and are expected to remain in effect for at least 48 hours, through Saturday, October 17 at 6:00 AM.

During an active restriction, parking is prohibited on certain streets marked with “Red Flag Days” signs in Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones. Keeping those streets clear helps fire crews respond quickly and leaves room for residents to evacuate if needed.

If you live in a high fire hazard area—especially in parts of Glassell Park, Mount Washington, Montecito Heights, or Elysian Park—check LAFD’s interactive map at LAFD.org/redflag to see if your street is listed. Follow posted signs; vehicles parked in restricted locations may be towed.

When our small businesses thrive, our neighborhoods and our City’s economy are stronger for it. That’s why spaces like @hustleheartcollective are so important to supporting local entrepreneurs and connecting them with the tools and resources they need to start and grow their businesses. We were proud to join this year’s summit, hosted right here in CD1 at the LA River Center and Gardens!

We’re grateful for partners like Corissa, who continue to throw down for small business owners across Northeast LA and throughout the city. We’ll continue advocating for the resources and investments our local entrepreneurs need to thrive, strengthen our neighborhoods, and keep their doors open for generations to come. by @cd1losangeles
