Our homelessness governance system is broken and the people who pay the price are the ones who need help the most.

After years of a bitter City-County feud, we brought both sides back to the table. This week, I introduced a motion to formalize a proposed framework that gives the City a meaningful role in the two systems behind it all:

📊 HMIS: the data that tracks who needs help and the services they receive
🏠 CES: the system that connects people to housing

The City builds the housing. The County provides the services. Neither can do it alone. This framework sets clearer responsibilities and real accountability for every public dollar we invest.

On October 27, a federal court takes up who runs these systems. My hope is that we walk in united and committed to collaboration.

People experiencing homelessness deserve a system that helps them get into housing and stay housed. Providers deserve clear coordination. And Angelenos deserve accountability.

That’s the work.

Trust begets trust. Enough finger-pointing. Let’s focus on what’s right, not who’s right.

When you call 911, every second counts.

Today, I signed a new Executive Directive to strengthen and modernize L.A.’s 911 emergency response system.

We’re taking action to create one coordinated dispatch center for our civilian crisis response teams, hire more 911 dispatchers, and leverage technology to reduce wait times.

Whether you need a police officer, firefighter, paramedic, or mental health professional, our goal is simple: get you the right help as quickly as possible.

Every Angeleno deserves to feel safe and know that help will be there when they need it.
