The estimated average annual cost to the taxpayer on the proposed levy is a tax of $110 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value, per year, based on current conditions. The proposed levy replaces an existing levy that expires on June 30, 2027, and that currently costs $91 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value. Therefore, if the proposed levy is approved, the tax per $100,000 of taxable assessed value, per year, is expected to increase by $19 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value. by @cdaschools

Leah Weber is a fifth grader with a big heart. The Fernan STEM Academy student and her mother, Sarah won $500 in a trivia contest at a University of Idaho football game nearly three weeks ago.

Leah said she will donate the entire amount to her school. The money will help cover school lunch costs for families who cannot afford them.

“I have a friend who doesn’t have a ton of money, and I don’t want to know that she didn’t get fed, or someone else didn’t get fed for lunch,” Leah said. “I want to make sure that everyone gets food in their stomachs.”

Idaho Lottery presented Leah the check on Wednesday.

Juniors in Tanya Lilley's U.S. History class at Lake City High School turned into historical detectives this week, investigating the Boston Massacre, which was one of the most pivotal events leading up to the American Revolution.

Students examined a recreated crime scene, eyewitness testimonies, newspaper accounts, propaganda, and closing arguments from the trial to piece together what happened on that fateful night in 1770.

Working in teams, students analyzed conflicting evidence, challenged each other's perspectives, and defended their conclusions about who was at fault.

It was a hands-on lesson in critical thinking, collaboration, and the importance of examining multiple perspectives before drawing conclusions.

History isn't just about remembering what happened. It's about understanding why.

The levy funds Kootenai Technical Education Campus (KTEC). We're remembering Lilly who graduated last spring and showcased KTEC-- where big ideas, hands-on learning and real-world skills are taught.

At the Kootenai Technical Education Campus (KTEC), students explore careers through technical training, work with industry tools and equipment, and build skills employers need. That experience helps students discover what they enjoy, make informed choices about their future, and prepare for careers and continued education.
KTEC is funded with levy dollars, giving students a head start on their careers.

The fourth grade students at Hayden Meadows Elementary recently stepped back in time during a hands-on day of Idaho history at the Cataldo Mission and Crystal Gold Mine!

At the Cataldo Mission, Idaho’s oldest standing building, students became history detectives with a scavenger hunt created just for them. They explored the mission, searching for artifacts and learning about the people, stories and history connected to this special place. They even learned that the building was constructed without a single nail holding it together!

Our day continued at the Crystal Gold Mine, where students got a glimpse into the challenges miners faced during Idaho’s mining days. They explored the mine, learned about the tools and techniques used by miners, and got to experience one of the biggest student favorites of the day: panning for their own gems!

It was such a fun way to bring our Idaho history learning to life and give students the opportunity to explore, ask questions and experience history beyond the classroom.

In our classrooms, students learn that democracy depends on people taking part by listening, learning and making informed choices. As adults, we bring those lessons to life when we vote.

Voting is a right and a civic responsibility, one that gives us a voice in our community’s future. When we participate, we show the next generation that their voices and choices matter, too.

Planning to vote by mail? Requesting your absentee ballot is a step you can take now to prepare. Take time to learn about what’s on your ballot and make a plan to participate.

Levy Basics: What’s on the November 3 ballot?

Coeur d’Alene Public Schools has a levy that helps pay for about 25% of district operations. It supports teachers and specialists, school safety officers, nurses, academic and career technical programs, music, drama, athletics and more.

The current levy provides $25 million per year and expires June 30, 2027. On November 3, 2026, voters inside the district boundary will consider a replacement levy of $30.25 million per year for two years.

If approved, the replacement levy would provide funding from July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2029, to maintain current staffing, programs and services. If it is not approved, the current levy will expire and the district would need to make significant reductions.
