This week I joined the team at @decreative_emporium and what a couple of days it’s been!! 🫶🏾

I’m so grateful to Nako for welcoming me into the team and to everyone who has trusted me to work on their hair. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do what I love

In just two days I have had the pleasure of working on braids, a locs retie, cornrows, wash, cut & blow-dry services, as well as getting involved with events alittle bit of everything and I’ve enjoyed every second. As someone who loves learning, developing my skills and celebrating textured hair in all its forms, being in this environment feels like such an exciting step forward.

So, if you’re looking for me, you’ll find me at De Creative Emporium in Trowbridge 🙌🏾

Here’s to new beginnings, new opportunities and continuing to grow. taken in De Creative emporium by @cecesoulfro

Last week I taught a @braidsocials workshop in London and afterwards I thought of all the reasons I love teaching here are 3 of them

1. Watching connections happen 🙌🏾

There’s a moment in every workshop when I hear everyone chatting, laughing & connecting without me prompting or participating. A group of strangers, brought together by one shared goal becomes a room full of excited beginners with the skills and stepping stones they need to progress.

2. Learning from the people I teach 🫶🏾

I love when someone shows me a new way to braid or cornrow that I would have never thought of. When the technique is different but the outcome the same, it reminds me that we all approach things differently, and there’s always something new to learn from one another.

3. That moment when it clicks 🫰🏾

I love seeing an attendee learn a new technique or realise they’re capable of doing something they didn’t think they could. Watching an attendee go from "I could never" to independently being capable within an hour motivates me to keep going and reminds me why this work matters.
(The student side of me also loves this moment)

I spent today representing @braidsocials at @oakfostering Understanding Life in Care Conference.

Hearing different perspectives when it comes to discovering identity, culture & self felt incredibly valuable. It was a great opportunity to listen and reflect on how important it is to create spaces where people feel safe to be seen, understood and supported throughout their journey.

As someone who first came across Braid Socials as an attendee and now works to teach others conversations like these are a constant reminder that hair is so much more than appearance.

Understanding how to care for our hair can have such a significant impact on confidence and our understanding of self on so many different levels.

Really grateful to have been present for the conversations today 💗 by @cecesoulfro

My learning journey continues 😊

Recently I joined the first cohort of Foundation Wig Makers with @onewigonesmileacademy an amazing charity that provide free real hair wigs to women with medical hairloss.

@kemistry_luxury_hair led three days of live online learning, as a group we worked through the foundations of wig making & constructed our wigs together in real time, building our skills through hands on practice.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to learn, develop my skills & finish the course with my very first handmade lace front wig 😊 by @cecesoulfro

For me, one of the most important parts of becoming a hair professional was taking the time to train properly.

I’m currently training in Barbering & Trichology, alongside my braiding skills, and this photo is a little snapshot of that journey.

Recently, I also had the opportunity to assist with these beautiful French curl braids.

For me, training wasn't just about learning how to do a hairstyle. I had to understand why everything happened the way they did in creating a look, learn all the little techniques that take me from enthusiast to professional & probably the biggest reason for me to train is building my confidence (I have realised I am a nervous learner and left to my own devices I would happily remain an assistant 😂)

I’m still learning, practising & improving but that’s the point.

Train. Practise. Learn. Improve. Repeat. 🙌🏾

So I've been barber training for a few months now and these are my different cuts from 4 different weeks.

Today was the first day I wasn't nervous! I started a cut (3) I felt like I know what I'm doing and I know what direction I'm going at each step.

This is the moment I've been looking forward to since I started that moment of complete confidence 🥳

So excited to keep going and keep cutting 🙌🏾 by @cecesoulfro

July Recap It's my birth month, and I always like to have a birthday resolution 🎂

Continuing Professional Development (CPDs) 🥳

I've thought a lot about CPDs, and I've decided no matter how far I go, I will continue to learn/train with others and attend events that strive for growth.

This month started with me training under the incredibly talented Ruth @braidscardiffacademy I've admired her work for a while, and I knew she would be the perfect mentor. I also got recommended a @coretexheads for practising and it really is great!!
I recently attended The Mane Event, hosted by @wearehouseofmedics It was such an insightful experience, and I learned so much beyond what's usually covered at hair health events, my social circle have been listening to my hair transplant facts for days now

What led me to choosing CPDs as a birthday resolution was having these experiences connect full circle and lead me to a discovery that probably could've taken less than a month.

A big part of why I'm doing everything I'm doing is to take what's available for textured hair in London and bring it further afield, for the small-town girlies too.
Ok the full-circle moment that took a month:
Start of the month learning a blowout → getting the gifted a @Cantubeauty brush at The Mane Event → using the brush on the @coretexheads I was recommended prior and realising how good the brush was for blowouts.

Yup that's it, sorry it wasn't a wilder ride of a story but that took around 3 weeks to discover 😂 I really feel like if I'd been more connected to the community I could've saved some time through a few one-on-one conversations.

Anyways, I'll keep going with my own little CPD journey, and hopefully, as more people outside London get to see what's available these full-circle moments like this can start happening closer to home 🤞🏾 by @cecesoulfro
