Born 1969. Died 1909. UK-based DJ Rrose has found a unique niche in the worldwide techno underground while remaining equally situated in the experimental and avant-garde artistic communities. His tracks incorporate ideas from early drone and minimalist music as prominently as they do the history of dance music. Whether as a DJ, live performer, or producer, Rrose crafts sonic ecosystems with patience and attention to detail, allowing the music to unfold gradually while tapping into deep, uncharted recesses of both the mind and body.

frail808 is a chicago-based dj, hardware act, producer, instrumentalist, and audio engineer. her roots as an experimental musician and performer have driven her to tirelessly experiment with new sounds and textures - frail808’s selections are wide and genre agnostic, with a unifying penchant for driving syncopated percussion, heavy sub bass, and yearning ambience. she brings an ecstatic energy to the decks, and thrives on the energy of a sweaty, uninhibited dancefloor - her sets are often broad in scope, traveling through searing bass bangers, ethereal breakbeat, introspective deep dub, and pulsing ambient tracks.

CEJ is a Korean American producer and DJ based in Chicago. Drawing from jazz, R&B, gospel, and classical music, his work reflects a strong foundation in harmony, rhythm, and composition. His productions bring together melodic ideas, layered percussion, deep bass, and detailed textures, with an emphasis on groove and feel. Whether he’s building out complex arrangements or keeping things minimal, CEJ is focused on making music that connects emotionally while keeping people moving.

A theme of extended opening sets has started to take precedence here at Red Room. For our second post in a row we’re treated to a nearly 4 hour mix, this time by CEJ. CEJ returned for his second Red Room set with every intention of building and shaping a world of soundscapes to truly lose oneself in. Naturally, he executes this sonic phenomenon with considerate pacing and sharp precision. 🎧 Chicago-based Korean American DJ CEJ is bringing an energetic blend of techno to Ktown’s warehouse pop up at the Anita Lim Art Installation.

🎨 Anita Lim uses everyday materials to construct bold, non-representational 3D forms that challenge ideas of scale, permanence, and perception.

🍸 Chiyo Takemoto from Coquetel Collective will be on-site to serve refreshments for purchase throughout the night, including makgeolli and soju cocktails.

We’re especially excited for this one, with friends and family of PLAY. A night connecting and celebrating generations of Chicago electronic music. From the OGs who helped build the scene to the artists carrying it forward.

Featuring Brian Kelly @harlemandirving — founder of the original PLAY series at Danny’s Tavern in 1998 and a driving force in the city’s electronic music community for over three decades. His work as a DJ, producer, and curator has helped shape generations of underground music culture in the city. Today, he continues that legacy through Harlem & Irving, the label he co-founded with Bob Davies, which has a growing catalog of releases and remains a home for exploratory electronic music.

The Opus @theopus_beats , one of Chicago’s most influential production duos, who has inspired many of the artists, producers, and selectors shaping Chicago electronic music today. Kevin Johnson and Aaron Smith have spent decades building deep, emotional soundscapes that pull from both underground hip-hop and leftfield electronic music.

CEJ @cej_94 , one of the city’s most exciting emerging electronic artists, is help shaping the future of Chicago electronic music through richly textured productions that blend jazz, soul, and electronic sound design.

I’m so excited to share that I’ll be opening for @soft.content and @rrose1921 at @podlasieclub !!

A little nervous ngl~ 🤏 but I’m honored to start the night off for two truly incredible artists.
It’s going to be a very special night. Hopefully we can all come together, dance hard, heal, and share love with each other along the way.
