LOVE FOREVER❣️

I was first introduced to Yayoi Kusama back in 2009, when as a budding tween artist I was taken to explore her exhibition. I was instantly in awe of the bold polkadots that covered the stone walls of the Wellington City Gallery. Inside I found a world of art that I had never experienced before and left that day with a new art idol and a hot-pink self portrait that hung on my bedroom wall for the following decade.

I don’t really share much of my work life here, but being able to intimately engage with her art last year was an incredible experience that I will always treasure. Being greeted by the Dancing Pumpkin each morning, getting to sit at my desk and type thousands of words on Narcissus Garden, and exploring her infinity rooms after hours was a career highlight.

Her fearless self-expression and experimental nature transgressed across centuries, languages and disciplines, a feat that is extremely rare. May her mission of love and peace through art continue across infinite universes ✨ by @celiabow

Vive La Viv 🤍

In 2016, I waltzed into Rooky Ricardo’s as a shy 19 year old, tired and homesick after six months of travelling abroad. It could have been just another visit to another record store, but instead it became the most memorable record shop experience I’ve ever had.

Over the next three hours, Dick brought over endless piles of 45s. We bonded over go-go dancing and our favourite girl groups, and he taught me about BWICs. I left that day with a stack of records and a handful of Dick selected compilations that stayed on repeat in my car for years to come.

It’s been such a pleasure getting to know Dick and spending time with him this year. From dance lessons in the Red Room (I promise I’ll keep working on my push!) to watching The Rockford Files at cocktail hour and parading my latest vintage finds for his approval, every moment with Dick was filled with joy and laughter.

Burly girl ✨✨✨

One of my favourite parts of performing burlesque was creating all the costumes! This was my 60s bombshell costume that I made out of sparkly baby blue velvet, white lycra and a tonne of rhinestones. I loved debuting this act at Australia’s premiere 1960s revue @discotheque.a.gogo
