Centre A is delighted to announce our last exhibition of the year, Window, Wallpaper, and Emergency Exit, featuring artworks by Toronto-based artist Lan Florence Yee.

This solo exhibition will present a new body of interdisciplinary work that examines the legacies and contradictions of utopian thought through installation, textile, painting, and light-based media. Grounded in research into the architectural history of glass brick, the project reflects on how modernist aspirations towards transparency and social progress persist and fracture within contemporary experiences of migration, queerness, and collective life.

Opening Reception: October 24, 2026, 6 – 9 PM
Exhibition Duration: October 24, 2026 - January 23, 2027
Location: #205-268 Keefer St. (2nd floor of the Sun Wah Centre)
Gallery Hours: Wed–Sat, 12–6 PM

Thank you everyone who stopped by to view Rituals for Unstable Ground and joined us for the exhibition’s public programming! Here are a few of our favourite photos from the exhibition and public programs!

Rituals for Unstable Ground is the culminating exhibition of our biennial emerging artist residency, a Blessing & a Curse & a Practice, featuring new works by Ghinwa Yassine, Romi Kim, and Xinwei Che.
Across the three practices, impression becomes a way of thinking about how bodies, histories, and places leave marks on one another. Fragments, fractures, traces, and absences become sites for considering memory, precarity, resilience, and the labour of making and remembering.
The exhibition asks what it means to return: to a material, a story, a place, a history that has not yet been laid to rest. Here, repetition becomes a practice of staying with what remains unresolved.
Workshop, Tracing lines on unstable ground with Xinwei Che:

Xinwei Che’s guided tour of the Fault Lines installation, moves between geological and lived forms of tension. Which looked at basic fault-line types as ways of understanding pressure, slippage, and rupture in both land and daily creative life. Participants traced cracks on surfaces in Sun Wah building, then returned to read these marks together and share reflections.

Artist Talk with Q&A with Ghinwa Yassine:

Ghinwa Yassine discusses her process of working with fragments of her grandfather’s destroyed home in South Lebanon, and how clay impressions become a way of attending to memory, absence, and loss. The conversation considers her ongoing return to materials and histories shaped by destruction, and how repetition can become a practice of remembrance and repair without restoring what has been lost.

Centre A will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, September 30, for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

On this day, we honour the Survivors, families, and communities impacted by the Residential School system.

As immigrant settlers, many of us in this space have come to be here through complex paths of displacement and diaspora, but our presence also exists within structures of settler colonialism on stolen Indigenous land. It is our responsibility to reflect and engage in solidarity movements that support Indigenous sovereignty and resist all forms of dispossession.

We encourage you to learn more about the lasting effects of Residential Schools and Canada’s colonial history, respectfully honour Survivors, and commit to reconciliation and decolonization beyond tomorrow. by @centre_a

Thank you for joining us at Centre A for the sold out launch of Accumulations on September 19!

Accumulations is a collective zine launch and reading event organized by participants in Centre A’s 2026 Art Writing Mentorship Program.

Thank you to the summer mentorship cohort for participating and collaborating with us to develop their practice. A special thank you to Dr. Yani Kong for mentoring the 2026 summer cohort; Adam Arca, Aretha Pereira, Chimgee Mendee, kathy feng, and Maximilliano Chi Leung Alserda. This program leads with the intention to develop art writing and criticism, while working with a small cohort of Vancouver-based Asian-identified youth through weekly writing, peer reviews, talks and workshops with visiting professionals, one-on-one consultations, and visits to local galleries.

Mentees developed and refined skills for writing critically about the arts. These skills were cultivated by reading, researching, and analyzing a selection of readings that operates across the disciplines; and by workshopping our own writing and creative projects. Participants also worked on the production of two high-quality, peer reviewed pieces of critical and/or creative writing along with their zine.

Did you miss the launch but still want a copy of the Accumulations zine? You can still purchase them in our boutique! taken in Vancouver, British Columbia by @centre_a

Thank you for joining us for the opening of Rituals for Unstable Ground, featuring new artwork by Xinwei Che, Romi Kim, Ghinwa Yassine, and a performance by SKIM! The event was well attended and we want to extend our gratitude for your support. It was especially meaningful to have everyone come together to see the works created during our residency and to celebrate the culmination of Xinwei, Romi, and Ghinwa’s time with us.

The exhibition will run until October 10, come visit during our gallery hours!

Rituals for Unstable Ground brings together three distinctive approaches to material, memory, and place. Across the exhibition, impressions become a way of understanding how bodies, histories, and places leave traces on one another. Fragments and absences become points of attention: what remains after something has been broken, displaced, concealed, or transformed.

Exhibition Duration: September 12 – October 10, 2026
Location: #205-268 Keefer St. (2nd floor of the Sun Wah Centre)
Gallery Hours: Wed–Sat, 12–6 PM

Also come check out some of our other public programs as part of this exhibition!
