The Foundation unequivocally condemns the recent acts of violence by pressure groups in Shillong.

Attacks on civilians, including children, and the destruction of public property are unacceptable. Peaceful protest is a legitimate right, violence is not.

Young people aren't waiting to be heard. They're leading the conversation.

At the inaugural roundtable of the Young People's Action Group (YPAG) in Meghalaya, students, artists, filmmakers, researchers, disability advocates, and community leaders spoke directly to policymakers about the climate and health realities shaping their lives.

In the room, young people were joined by Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla, Chief Secretary Dr. Shakil P. Ahammed, MSCPCR Chairperson Agatha K. Sangma and UNICEF India's Chief of Field Services Soledad Herrero.

YPAG is Northeast India's first formally institutionalised youth advisory platform on climate and health policy — a milestone made possible through the partnership of UNICEF India, the Centre for Policy, and the Government of Meghalaya. by @centreforpolicy

On 12 May, the Centre for Policy in partnership with @unicefindia, convenes a roundtable of young changemakers - practitioners, researchers, artists, students, and community leaders - to shape the approach for the Young People’s Action Group (YPAG) in Meghalaya.

YPAG was created to establish an institutional platform for the state’s youth, and the roundtable asks a clear question of participants: what support do you need from UNICEF, and which priorities should guide the platform’s design? by @centreforpolicy

Glimpses for our workshop for @unesco World Press Freedom Day 2026.

The event opened with an address by Jade Lyngdoh, Director of the Centre for Policy, who underscored the necessity of supporting media practitioners as they confront mounting global challenges. Citing UNESCO’s recent report World Trends in Freedom of Expression and Media Development, which finds that nearly 40% of media actors employ artificial intelligence to create or modify content, Mr. Lyngdoh warned of the risks associated with increasing reliance on AI-driven tools and stressed the imperative of building partnerships to safeguard information as a public good.

The event’s workshop, organised with Boom Live as a knowledge partner, focused on the growing challenges of misinformation in crises, particularly with the rise of generative AI. Divya Chandra of Boom Live delivered insights into the impact of AI manipulated media, highlighting how artificially generated inaccuracies can affect journalism and reduce public
trust. She also shared her experience as a fact checker including a toolkit which can be
utilised by media stakeholders. An interactive activity following the workshop engaged participants in identifying and responding to crisis scenarios, encouraging critical thinking
and practical application of news verification techniques taught during the workshop.

The event concluded with an address by international lawyer Karuna Nundy, who serves on
the High-Level Panel of Legal Experts on Media Freedom. The engagement was supported by
DIPR Meghalaya, which provided a venue to host the workshop.
