Young people aren't waiting to be heard. They're leading the conversation. At the inaugural roundtable of the Young People's Action Group (YPAG) in Meghalaya, students, artists, filmmakers, researchers, disability advocates, and community leaders spoke directly to policymakers about the climate and health realities shaping their lives. In the room, young people were joined by Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla, Chief Secretary Dr. Shakil P. Ahammed, MSCPCR Chairperson Agatha K. Sangma and UNICEF India's Chief of Field Services Soledad Herrero. YPAG is Northeast India's first formally institutionalised youth advisory platform on climate and health policy — a milestone made possible through the partnership of UNICEF India, the Centre for Policy, and the Government of Meghalaya.

In Session 8 of Meghalaya Media Meet 2025, Dr. Sampath Kumar, IAS, spearheading the state’s transformative health reforms shared how maternal and child health needs to be narrated beyond numbers. While statistics like IMR and MMR often remain abstract, each case represents a story of a mother, a child, and a family facing systemic challenges. He emphasized that reframing maternal deaths as solvable has been central to Meghalaya’s approach, driving initiatives such as the Rescue Mission and Village Health Councils, which together helped reduce maternal deaths by 50% and infant deaths by 37% between 2021–2025. #meghalayamediameet2025 #HumanCentricReporting #maternalhealth #childhealth #purposedrivengovernance #citizencentricgovernance #BuildingTrust #mediafordevelopment
