Big news for Burlington, Hamilton & beyond!

Canada is investing $9.3 million to protect and restore the Great Lakes.

That includes $1.6 million in local projects, like shoreline restoration at Beachway Park and nutrient reduction efforts in Grindstone Creek.

Freshwater is at the heart of healthy communities.
Let’s protect it, together!

🤝 "I want to believe that there's hope. All of these environmental problems are also impacting our infrastructure and our health. There's an opportunity to re-frame these issues for the public. We're bridging these conversations at Ontario Nature with over 40,000 members and 150 nature network groups. We're building coalitions on common interests and working together on the unequal impacts of climate change." Melina Damian from Ontario Nature spoke at CEP Toronto's event, "Living Landscapes" and discussed topics like the social benefits of conservation and urban resiliency.

🦆 🐦‍⬛ 🪿 🦉 "In the 1950s, when the city created this peninsula that eventually flourished into Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA)'s Tommy Thompson Park. Now it's considered an important bird area, which means it's the equivalent of a super highway for migratory birds, and there's been over 300 birth species and recorded in the park... [which is important because] birds are in a housing crisis, meaning that their habitat is shrinking." Dr. Loren King discussed how birds are an important part of Toronto's biodiversity and how many parks around the city are world class conservation areas. 🌳 CEP hosted a great event last week on Living Landscapes: Community Restoration and Biodiversity in a Changing Ontario. Participants came to learn about challenges, such as the impact of algae blooms on water biodiversity, and organizations fighting to protect Ontario's natural landscape, like the High Park Nature Centre's invasive species management control and public education. Thank you so much to our speakers Melina Damian at Ontario Nature and Dr. Loren King at Wilfrid Laurier University for lending their time and expertise to our community! #ontario #toronto #sustainability #biodiversity #conservation #wilfridlaurier #ontarionature taken in Waterfront Neighbourhood Centre by @ceptoronto
