As a new potter, I wanted to challenge myself to create something special for my wedding. I am proud to say that after 7 months of continuous work, I was able to gift each of my guest a custom coaster engraved with their name. A total of 150 guests, but don’t be fooled, many mistakes were made along the way. I, in total, made over 200 coasters. A look into the process: first I wedged the clay and used a stencil to cut out the shape on slabs. Then after some drying, I trimmed each coaster on the wheel to give it its final design. I then customized each coaster, fired and glazed. One coaster took about 4 weeks from start to completion. My first large bulk project, hopefully not my last, but will probably take a break from making any coasters for a while ✨🥂 by @ceramicgems_

Today at the studio, I challenged myself to make 4 identical cylinders. It’s easier to make all different shapes and sizes since the clay sometimes takes control. Making all identical shapes takes patience. Each is 10 cm in height and 9 cm in width. I can’t wait to trim and glazes this set! #ceramics #pottery #cylinder #wheelthrown by @ceramicgems_
Today I trimmed 10 pieces and they are ready for bisque firing! 💎 I learnt a lesson in timing because some of my pieces were too dry to trim. In the video clip, you can see that the trimmings are very flaky. The trimmings should be more smooth and form continuous ribbons. The term for the state that the clay should be in is “leather hard”. To combat the dryness I had to re-wet the pieces. Had some errors along the way, but ultimately made it work! #pottery #trimming #wheelthrown #ceramics #leatherhard #learn by @ceramicgems_
I started taking pottery classes about 3 months ago, something I have wanted to do for a while and finally decided to do! Learning to throw pottery is a lot more challenging than I expected and is really teaching me a lesson in patience. I have only recently started to feel comfortable with the basics and within the past week or two have been trying to become more creative in my pot shapes. Yesterday I threw my first 3.5lb pot and made this flower vase! I can’t wait to show you the final product once it’s fired and glazed ✨ #pottery #ceramics #flowervase #wheelthrown #hobby #discover by @ceramicgems_
