A little Latin lesson underfoot in Chelsea.

Found these beautiful mosaic floors inside the chapel at the historic General Theological Seminary, now also home to Vanderbilt University’s new NYC campus.

These are Latin names for virtues. From closest to farthest:

Fortitudo: Fortitude, meaning courage and strength in facing difficulty.

Justitia: Justice, meaning fairness and doing what is right.

Temperantia: Temperance, meaning moderation and self-control.

These are three of the four cardinal virtues in Christian tradition. The fourth is Prudentia, meaning prudence or wise judgment, which appeared farther along the floor.

A new chapter for this tucked-away piece of New York, with plenty of history still beneath your feet. taken in Vanderbilt University by @cescapardo

Here are Adam and Eve keeping cool in The Garden of Eden inside the walled garden. Two named weeping beech trees grow inside the entrance: the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, representing wisdom, and the Tree of Life, representing immortality.

I wonder which tree they are under????

Everything I know about making something beautiful, I learned from watching her. The way she moved through a room, a conversation, an idea. The way she could make anything funny, anything meaningful, anything her own.
Her creativity lives in the way I see. Her knowledge lives in how I think. Her humor lives right at the surface, ready to break through at exactly the right moment.
Some things don’t get passed down. They get woven in.

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.” — Cardinal Mermillod

Wishing everyone who loves, nurtures, and shows up for children, fur babies, chosen family, or anyone lucky enough to be in your orbit, a beautiful day. Happy Mother’s Day.❤️🐾 by @cescapardo
