Some places only make sense from the air. A different window of view, offering a sense of peace and isolation within untouched landscapes. There’s something special about seeing the world from above, where distance creates a quiet perspective and places feel completely removed from the everyday.

I’m drawn to the cool tones and muted textures in this image, where the landscape almost feels like a painting created entirely by nature. The isolation and vastness create a sense of stillness, with each shape, tone and natural mark forming its own composition. There’s something powerful about finding this kind of beauty in such quiet, untouched places.

Where water, land and tide meet, the coastline becomes its own abstract landscape. From above, intricate channels and formations reveal patterns shaped by the constant movement of water, turning the Australian coast into something that feels almost painted.

The soft pinks of the coastline meet the whites of the salt and the earthy tones of the land, creating a palette entirely shaped by nature.

Photographed from above during one of my solo flights across remote Australia, these images explore the point where landscape begins to feel almost abstract.

How lucky am I to have @cessnacam @andyvukosav in my life 🤍
So ridiculously talented, a lifelong friend, and generous enough to let me hang his masterpieces in my home between exhibitions.

Forever his No. 1 fan. ✨ taken in Hampton, Victoria, Australia by @cessnacam

Something I’ve been waiting to share.

Over the past few months I’ve been slowly working through the photographs from my most recent journey across Australia — through the centre, west to the coast and eventually back home again.

As always, I needed some distance from the trip before I could really see what I’d brought back.

What has emerged is a collection of images that surprised me.

Some are quiet. Some are strange. Some barely seem photographic at all. But they all came from those moments I’m constantly searching for — when the landscape suddenly reveals something I hadn’t expected and my first reaction is simply:

My God, that’s beautiful.

Only afterwards comes the inevitable question:

What on earth is that?

That combination of wonder, mystery and discovery is still the thing that keeps me flying.

The new collection is now live at Cessnacam.

I’d love you to take a look.

And if you’d like to be the first to see future work, exhibitions, studio news and occasional releases, you can join the Cessnacam mailing list through the link in my bio.

Looking down from the sky, nature takes on a new perspective, revealing unexpected combinations of colour, contrast and form. From above, the landscape becomes almost abstract, with each element coming together to create its own rhythm and pattern.

Nature’s patterns from above. Winding waterways, earthy textures and the raw beauty of the Australian landscape, captured from a different perspective. #AustralianLandscape #EarthFromAbove #EarthTextures by @cessnacam

From the sky, the Australian landscape becomes something entirely different lines, textures and natural patterns shaped by the seasons, the land and the people who work it.

A quiet contrast between cultivated ground and untouched country.

Bring nature into the home.

These are some of my installations, exploring how we can bring the Australian outback into our homes through a frame. Using natural elements, textures, light and organic forms to create a sense of connection between the landscape and the spaces we live in and the spaces we create.

I’ve been going through some new work from a recent flight across the bottom left hand corner of Western Australia and kept coming back to these images.

There’s something about them I can’t quite let go of.

From the air, the landscape begins to lose its familiar scale. Salt lakes become shapes, shorelines become gestures, and the marks left by water, wind and time start to resemble something almost drawn.

At times I’m not sure whether I’m looking at landscape, a map, a painting or something strangely anatomical.

That uncertainty is part of what keeps me flying.

The more I do this, the less the landscape seems to need an explanation. It simply reveals an order and a visual language that was there all along — we just weren’t in the right place to see it.

Enjoy
