🍅 🍐 🥕 We provide the produce at wholesale cost, not retail, so your contribution to this fund goes even further. 🫑 🌶️🥬

Your contribution ensures that the fridges are stocked with nutrient dense, locally grown and culturally relevant produce on a weekly basis throughout September to November to support people who are facing food insecurity.

🌟 Logistics 🌟
We provide pickup for Community Fridges Toronto to gather the produce every Thursday between 3pm and 7pm directly at our booth at Dufferin Grove Farmers Market, where they are collected by volunteers from Community Fridges Toronto and are distributed by volunteers from @thebikebrigade .

Hello, thank you for being here !! We thought we'd reintroduce ourselves for folks just joining the community, and to remind you why we're all here 🐸 ☮️
Some things to know:

✨ The fridges operate under a “take what you need, leave what you can” philosophy, where items can be accessed at any time of day, no questions asked, without enrolling in a program, and free from the stigma associated with food insecurity.

✨ We're a network of volunteers, business owners, and community builders mobilizing to provide hubs for mutual aid to occur, where we can support each other directly without intervention and outside of traditional charity models.

✨We all deserve choice and dignity; this is not solely about food insecurity, this is about the oppression and injustices built into all of our systems. Need can look different for everyone and we must broaden our idea of what need looks like.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS — SEEDS BENEATH THE SNOW

We are looking for volunteers with experience in:

Sound Live sound, microphones, mixers, speakers, troubleshooting

AV / Hybrid Events Projectors, laptops, Zoom, remote speakers, film playback, hybrid event support

Photography Event photography and documentation

Videography Recording panels, keynotes, and other approved event programming

We are also looking for general volunteers to help with:

Registration & Entry Welcoming attendees, check-in, answering basic questions, and helping manage entry

Setup & Tear Down Room setup and staged teardown. No specialized experience is needed for general volunteer roles — we’ll provide instructions and coordinate teams in advance.

Postering and flyering
Getting the word out leading up to the event.

All volunteers will receive free tickets to the symposium.

ROOTED: Palestinian Resilience Through Food - A Pop-Up Kitchen & Fundraiser

This pop-up brings together Palestinian chefs Izzeldin Bukhari (@sacredcuisine) and Safaa Alnabelseya (@svfvvvv), each carrying their own relationship to Palestinian food, land, and memory. Izzeldin is a plant-based chef from Al Quds. Safaa is a Palestinian-Canadian artist and chef based in Tkaranto. They’ve come together around a shared question: What can food tell us about the land we come from, and the ways we continue to belong to it?

The answer takes shape in a seasonal menu built around Palestinian foodways and the wild plants and seeds that have long grown from the land. Purslane becomes a fresh salad, wild za’atar finds its way into pies, and sumac, anise, tahini, lentils, and pomegranate weave through a menu that moves between savoury and sweet. The menu includes rumanniyeh, sumakiyeh, anise iced tea, and sweet tahini blondies, among other dishes. These are not simply ingredients. They are plants gathered, remembered, cooked, and carried forward. They hold stories of identity and memory, of nourishment and survival, of a people continuing to resist, exist, return, and remain connected to the land.

Rooted is an invitation to share in those stories, one dish at a time. 🇵🇸

The full menu will be served in a takeaway box, with Palestinian dishes to enjoy on the go or picnic outside the bakery. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options will be available. See our menu for the full offering. Menu items are subject to change.

My $23 bike trailer from @secondjourneythrift has moved so much beautiful food this summer and was 100% worth pushing all the way home from work. Putting today’s haul on the grid because doing this always makes my day.

🌱 TORONTO PREMIERE OF SEEDS FOR LIBERATION 🌱

Friends, we are pumped to announce that director Matthew Solomon (@mattytheglue) is back and this time, he's flying in to join our panel in person. After the magic we built together in March with his doc, Reimagining Safety, we couldn't be more excited for this one.

Seeds For Liberation examines what we all know to be true: that settler colonialism never ended and Zionism is one example of its genocidal continuation. We also witness steadfast resistance against Zionism, here in so-called Canada, on Turtle Island, in Occupied Palestine, and around the world. We see the common humanity, the creativity, solidarity, intelligence and Sumud that will eventually dismantle it. This film is powerful and inspiring in how it connects the Free Palestine movement to Black, Chicano and other liberation and abolitionist movements.

And it's a reunion! The wonderful Mskwaasin Agnew (@mskwaasin_agnew) is back on the panel too 🥹

👀 Stay tuned as there are more incredible Toronto-based panelists to be announced, and trust us, they're gems.

Community Fridges is a Tkaronto-based volunteer-driven community initiative with a network of fridges and pantries that offer free food to combat food insecurity.

Necessities like fresh produce, whole meals, pantry goods, and personal care items can be accessed by anyone, at any time of day, no questions asked.

CFTO operates as mutual aid, with community members and volunteers keeping the fridges running, clean and organized.
Everyone is welcome to contribute food to the community fridges.

CFTO’s Motto: “Take what you need, leave what you can.” They do not police who is able to access food, how much of it or how often.

They are looking for volunteers right now, there are fridge locations all over the city.
