A great morning at the historic Pico House, built in 1870 by Pío Pico, California’s last Latino governor under Mexican rule. A great place to reflect on California’s history and future! 🔮✨ by @cfuentesrun

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to testify virtually before the Illinois General Assembly during the first-ever subject matter hearing in creating a state legal pathway for a Chicago City Charter.

Drawing from my experience on the Los Angeles City Charter Reform Commission, I shared a few lessons from our process: public engagement should shape the work, not simply respond to it; commissions need Independence and support; scope should be clear, but adaptable; and the path from recommendations to voters should be clear from the start.

One point I kept coming back to: elections determine who holds power, while a charter helps establish the rules under which power is exercised.

Grateful for the thoughtful questions and for the chance to share a little of Los Angeles's experience as Chicago considers something historic of its own. ✨🔮 by @cfuentesrun

How do we build power?

Fires. Immigration enforcement and ICE violence. An administration targeting our communities. We have been hit hardest, but we’re not backing down.

Hear from activists, community organizers, and local leaders on what it takes for our communities to build the people and political power to hold corporations and elected leaders accountable.

This is plática, política y pueblo. 🎙️

🎙️ EL MIC IS HERE! EPISODE 1 IS LIVE!🎙️

El MIC (Media in Color) is a podcast that seeks to empower, engage and activate our communities with knowledge and information.

Our guests Senator @sashareneeperez, community organizer @thatfoolmark, and social justice CALÓ reporter @brendaverano_ examine community-centered leadership, how to hold corporations accountable and solutions to mitigate environmental & chemical disasters.

A preview of El MIC from @calonewsla, dropping tomorrow. 🔮✨

Honored to be part of this conversation about community power, accountability, and what comes next.

Our communities are powerful when we come together in the face of disaster, but how do we build that power before a crisis happens? And where do we go after, when the headlines fade but the work continues?

A community organizer, elected leader, and journalist share their perspectives in this convo.

Excited for y'all to hear it! 🎙️✨ by @cfuentesrun

Thank you @nathalie__basha of @spectrumnews1socal for including my voice in this story.

As President of @layoungdems, I was glad to speak up for what should be obvious: Los Angeles and San Diego are home to millions of people, and no leaders should treat our communities as expendable.

We deserve leaders who take our safety seriously and speak about American lives with the care and responsibility they deserve. by @cfuentesrun

Grateful for the people who made the HOPE Regional Leadership Institute such a meaningful experience: our cohort, the speakers who shared their stories and wisdom with us, and the team who honored the space with so much care and intention.

Had the best day celebrating my @hopelatinas Regional Leadership Institute graduation with my best friends and family.

Over the past six months, I’ve had the chance to learn more deeply about Los Angeles, regional leadership, public service, and what it means to build power in community. This graduation felt like such a beautiful culmination of that experience, and I’m so excited to officially be part of the HOPE network.

Feeling very grateful and very inspired for what’s next. ✨🌟 by @cfuentesrun
