We had a super fun visit to St Louis last weekend. 90 degrees, the arch, and plenty of art (which the kids enjoyed more than they expected to!)

Here we made it to @pulitzerarts designed by #tadaoando to see an exhibition of textile works by @olgadeamaral and @richard.serra “Joe” from 1999. Then we saw @ayana.m.evans @camstl and #anselmkiefer @stlartmuseum

And of course we had a mini camp reunion for the bat mitzvah, which will power us through until it’s summer again!

And somewhere in there was a pole dancing squirrel @citymuseum 🤷🏼‍♀️ 🐿️

Thank you @cacoalition and @saltfirelife for the honor at your annual celebration this week! I’m so proud to share the mission and work of championing artists and helping to make connections on behalf of the Chicago art community every day.

It was also so special to have CGN’s founding publisher and my mentor @nvs10 there despite the pouring rain and dressed on theme in neon!

Thank you to all friends who came out to shine bright on a dreary night ⚡️ and thanks to @susangescheidle for sharing some photos!

To infinity and beyond! Just a couple images from @wrightwood659 works by @yayoi._.kusama as part of “Inner Worlds: Visions from the Hirshhorn Collection” which features the work of three trailblazing women artists who rose to international acclaim for their distinct approaches to perception and embodiment: Yayoi Kusama (b. 1929), Niki de Saint Phalle (1930–2002), and Mary Bauermeister. Open as of today!

Even at the small press preview Thursday, we were told we had a time limit in the Infiniti rooms. When I said I thought that was only for crowd control in the selfie-age, I learned from the staff and curator that the time limits were set by the artist years ago because of a sense of the ideal time to spend in the environments. Infinity I guess does have a limit!

The CGN team drove our U-Haul van around town today to complete round one of this week’s fall 2026 issue drops! We clocked 108 degrees around 1pm - a new meaning for hot off the press 🥵 🙌 🚐

Grab a copy while you can or subscribe. Prepare for cooler weather and a great fall art season!

Caught the Matisse show @artinstitutechi with a day to spare! Fitting in a few exhibitions before school is out, even though I remind my kids that seeing art is what a lot of people do voluntarily when on vacation…

In the early 1940s, when very much an established artist, Henri Matisse (1869–1954) became captivated by cut paper as a medium. Bedridden and unable to paint following an excruciating abdominal surgery, cut paper allowed him to continue to create in his relatively sedentary state. A new way of creating art called him to explore a fresh medium and also incorporate his memories of Parisian music halls, the circus, trips to Tahiti, folktales, and mythology. What resulted was a series of 20 cut-paper maquettes.

I got to preview the upcoming exhibition “Flyway City” @chiarchitecture recently to hear from @studiogang and CAC CEO and President Eleanor Esser Gorski.

Flyway City: Architecture for a Flourishing Ecosystem reveals how people can help create healthier urban habitats and save birds from colliding with building glass — a problem that currently kills more than 1 billion birds each year in the United States.

Designed and co-curated by Studio Gang, the architecture and urban design practice founded in Chicago and led by world-renowned architect Jeanne Gang, Flyway City features architectural models and mock-ups, original illustrations, photography, building materials and interactive media, along with bird-related artifacts from local Chicago organizations and individuals.

From examining new technologies that can help decrease bird strikes on windows - the CAC building downtown applied a simple film to its windows - to viewing facts and figures about native birds as well as migration patterns, the informative exhibition is also a call to action for visitors who want to help in their own way.
